ScottyIce's Final Farewell

HAHAHAHA!

I thought I was in a different forum and searched for a topic, and instead found this thread. Re-reading the OP was a trip down memory lane.

I know Matty earned his way out of here, but I do miss the guy.

I'm trying to think of a good analogy for Matty. He's kind of like... a kid you mentor, who seems to make be making progress, but then shoots himself in the foot repeatedly. And the eventually the chances just run out even though they're still likable in a unique way.

What kind of stinks for him (outside of the rule breaking) was that he's one of those rare exceptions of people who I think could've been allowed back at some point. Can't say that with 100% certainty, and it might've taken a couple years, but it might've been discussed at least. But he even shot that opportunity in the foot with all the not-so-subtle sock accounts and disrespect for our judgement.

Once the ban hammer falls is it a permanent thing or is there probation and entry after counciling and indoctrination?

The official policy is that it's permanent.  In practice though, mods generally don't check IP addresses and posting habits of new posters until they become a problem.  I'd guess that a fairly high percentage of banned users come back under a new account.  Sometimes multiple times.   But the rate of recidivism is quite high.  As in Matty/ScottyIce's case.

Did any of us ever really respect your judgement?
