Shatel: Changing barometer for NU?

"You're starting to hear Pelini say that trophies aren't everything."

Does this bother anybody else that Bo said this? I think it's great he is focused on the kids academics and their representation of the university and the state of Nebraska. But we also brought him in to win trophies/championships. That's why he's making a $hitload of money as a coach, not just to be a mentor, but a CHAMPION!

Kind of like TO's book "More than winning". We should have fired him too.

I think we are taking the article wrong, I took it as a positive, progress made.

Most of us are talking about things we no little about. What Carl and whomever did is on them. If wrong it comes out, if right it still comes out wrong most likely.

I do not know either of the people involved and have no comment on it one way or another.

I don't care who knows whom, this is not TMZ and we are not dropping names of people we think messed around with Carl Pelini. This has been a long-standing policy of this board, and it is not changing now.

If you know the people involved that's great. If you want to gossip about their lives, great. Just don't do it here.

If beating Iowa was a panacea for the boosters who want Bo gone they are idiots and we'd be better off without their money.
I don't think these boosters are unhappy with Bo's knowledge of coaching.

These boosters are frustrated with his sideline behavior and the way he speaks to the media. Carl having an affair with a boosters daughter-inlaw doesn't help either. These guys are looking for any reason to get the Pelini's out.
And you know all of this because........
I know this booster's son and the son's ex-wife.
FWIW, I was talking to a friend during the tOSU game, and he supposedly knows a big time booster who pretty much echoed the same sentiments. That Bo and TO aren't exactly on the greatest of terms and that there are a lot of boosters who don't like Bo's sideline antics and they want him out. I don't know if these stories are true or not, nor would I stake my reputation on them, but where there is smoke there is normally fire.

I agree with Knapp, if that is their feelings, then maybe we are better off without these boosters.

Edit:

I'm pretty sure if you were a booster and Carl wrecked your sons marriage, you would want him gone as well. It's just as much *******'s fault but what was Carl thinking?
If this is in fact true (I personally think that it is) you can lay pretty much all of the blame on the person who is married and cheated. Sorry to get all off topic.

I resent the idea of a school being run by boosters. Isn't a big time booster one of the big reasons that Bo is here in the first place?

But if it's booster's AND our AD's feelings then there may be something to it

Have we all been watching the same season this year? Thought the "sideline antics" we're a thing of the past. Hell, how many discussions have there been here on the board this year about how Bo doesn't have the fire like he used to? This is all giving me a headache.

No rumorville....no rumors. Am I right or am I right? :ahhhhhhhh

I have no problem with saying there's more to this game than championships. He's right. Are championships how we ultimately judge a coach? For the most part, I think yes. Osborne wouldn't have the clout he has here if he hadn't won three championships, obviously. But there are other things we need to keep in mind, as well.

And I think Husker_x makes a great point. I think Pelini was right to retain Watson after 2008, and to some extent he didn't make a bad decision after the season was over. Fix the defense before you worry about an offense that, for the most part, was successful. Whether or not Pelini should have found another coach is a topic for debate, and in retrospect it's easy to believe he should have found someone else after 2008. Also, in retrospect, I believe we can say that retaining Watson was a big mistake and set the team back.

We now must live with these choices of a first time head coach. It is what it is and we can change nothing.

People always talk about how Pelini was left with a team loaded with talent. This is true, but in reference to the defense, it was very raw talent left over from a very poor, poor coaching staff. He had to teach a brand new scheme. Those players were probably more talented, in the end, than what we have at this time, but I somewhat scoff at the idea that they were a lot better than what we have now.

Zoogies,

Yes, and I think the same one that stated it was a big game in past tense. It was a game needed for justification of where we are headed. Positive in my mind.

Bo's sideline demeanor has improved greatly, but is still followed continously by the camera's. Appearing like they are waiting for the next meltdown.

It is my understanding as of the first of the season, that Coach Osborne is/was very happy with Bo. I have not heard of any problems, but I have not spoken to Coach Osborne since early September.

I think this is more smoke than fire, and we are blowing it way out of proportion.

Actually, where there is smoke there may be fire but usually we see much more smoke when the fire is being extinguished.
