Should we allow this?

Don't think it's a message board, but will it take a lot of traffic away from us? Is it an advertisement? SHould he ask permission?

Since you can pay money ( If I understand it correctly) I would go with it being an advertisement. Yes it would take traffic away from us to a degree.

I think that it is spam personally.

I dunno - seems to me to be similar to any on-line game and we allow those discussions in the Computer section. From the sound of it, he's just trying to get together some folks to play a game.

Ok this guy is a spammer. He posted this bs in the Husker football forum, the big 12 forum , the nfl forum.......

I deleted two threads and moved one to the game forum.

He is spamming the sh#t out of us.

Okay, everyone - we need input. What do you think about this? And would whatever you think apply to THIS THREAD, as well?

Also, assuming we start enforcing the "No Outbound Links without Permission" rule, there are some issues we need to clear up:

1. What would be considered an outbound link? What I mean is, what would be considered permissible? What will be the criteria? On the one hand, we certainly don't want links to objectionable material or sites that compete with ours. On the other hand, we want to keep this a place for people to connect on a variety of subjects, with the Huskers being the primary - but not the sole - focus (hence the BS forum and the More Sports forum).

2. Do we simply delete and ban, or do we warn the poster via PM or email?

3. Any other issues that come to mind?

Thanks, everyone.

I belive the only way someone should remove their advertising is if the link:

a. has a forum concerning Husker Athletics

b. poses a signaficant threat to take away users from us

If it's a first post advertising thing, the first thing to do would be to PM/Email them because you never know if it's someone trying to start something up with some Husker fans for fun or just a spammer. That way there are no misunderstandings.

I see it this way because, I have started a blog. If I wanted to put the link to my blog in my sig or post a new topic asking people to check it out, I should be able to because I'm not trying to take away people from HB, I'm merely trying to garner interest to my site.

I'd say just check his other posts. He only has 3 and that other guy only has 4. I can't check because the search is still disabled...but if the other posts say the same thing then it's spam. No one joins a site to legitimately talk Husker athletics and then open his first few posts with "check out this site/game"...only spammers do that. I don't think any one of us mods/admins have...?

I belong to another forum elsewhere that newbies are banned from posting links for their first few posts (something like 5-10 I think). Helps get rid of spammers

my $.02

I think he's spammer. It's pretty obvious that if one of your first post's is a link to your site. Couple that with the cross-posting and I think it's pretty cut and dry.

IMO if it wasn't about football it would be spamo. So should it be allowed: nope. Now in a sig line that's outta my paygrade. :)

gbr

Looks like borderline spam to me. I think we should make a new silent rule about outbound links; posters have to post at least 10 legit posts before we allow them to post an outbound link.
