signature policy?

I notice this board seems more generous than most with the signatures - some of them are pretty out of control (not a huge fan, personally, of how 37's is five times longer than his posts, but breaking the horizontal plane on any reasonable monitor is I think, pretty clear across the line of reasonable.

Here's typ3kal, whose banner sig is about 1246 px wide...some members have brought it up in a thread he started.

Does this merit watching? Should we send him a short notice asking him to reduce the size by (say...at least) half? Since there aren't any hard or fast rules in place he didn't do anything wrong, and he might point out that some others have similarly ridiculous sigs. So should we leave it be for a while, come up with a general and lenient signature policy, and ask members to abide by it?

This came up under the old Board software. Take a look at THIS THREAD. Unfortunately, the same still applies - we can't alter it very well in the software.

It does get a little old scrolling down all the time because of giant signatures. JMO

That's why I have sigs turned off. There are some crazy huge sigs around here.

I think it should be case by case. Some people don't know how to properly size images they post. If someone's sig is too big then maybe we could kindly notify them and help him/her resize it or rearrange it. I enjoy reading sigs on this board. :thumbs

You can ditch your avatar any time, or keep it until the next go-round next year. Usually people wear them for a month or so at the website I borrowed the idea from, and after that it's as you like.
