That mentality though, is everything! More than X's and O's, that's probably the most important responsibility a coach has. Expert coaches have gone and flunked out everywhere. Sometimes it's not the coaches' faults at all, but I don't think we will be able to see any shift in mentality without a lot of effort & direction from the coaches eitehr.

 
I agree, the coaches have to do their part. But, there are great coaches who haven't worked out at a certain place. I believe it's because, for some reason, the mentality of the team was such that no matter what the coach does, it doesn't change enough to win championships.

 
Any coach that doesnt wear a headset is not a good coach. How is he actually suppose to communicate with his staff? All Hoke did was stand cross armed on the sideline and look clueless for a couple years.

He had a headset on at critical times in the game or when he needed one. Any of Hoke's shortcoming where not bc of him not wearing a headset. His biggest setback was changing offenses and not having the personnel to execute.

Bobby Bowden says hi. He didnt wear a headset very often anytime in his coaching career.
