Haven't heard anything about academics, but an Indiana fan on reddit said this:

"I've heard that there are some question marks with this guy. Good player for sure, but there's a significant team chemistry issue with him which is why OK moved on. He was going to visit IU, but then some of Coach Wilson's old OK buddies recommended he passed on Jefferson. Not saying he would've picked IU, just relaying what was on our message boards about a week ago. Hopefully it's an unfounded rumor!"

I don't have issues with taking a chance.

They tried it last year and it didn't pan out for Talan and Stevenson. At least they only tied up schollies for a year.
