Signed - QB Patrick O'Brien

This kid is our future. I wouldn't be surprised if he comes in and pushes Armstrong next year. The good thing is he is trying to graduate early and be here sooner.

One of the steady risers in the quarterback rankings from his junior season, through the summer and into his senior year has been Nebraska commit Patrick O'Brien. What he's doing at San Juan Hills High School in California as a senior has now vaulted him into the Top100 nationally on 247Sports to No. 99.

To date, O'Brien has completed close to 80 percent of his passes for over 1,700 yards with 19 touchdowns and only two interceptions. On the ground he's been effective as well, rushing for close to 400 yards and 7 more touchdowns. To put together that kind of a senior campaign after we saw him explode onto the scene this spring and summer with a big-time arm, athleticism, a big frame and the kind of poise and competitive nature that you need out of a quarterback, there's no reason why O'Brien shouldn't be discussed among the best this 2016 class has to offer at the quarterback position.

Pretty excited to get this kid to Lincoln to start learning what will undoubtedly be handed over to him in 2017 for 4 years.

Redshirt?

No. The coaching staff is and will continue to shove square pegs in round holes.

Until January, when they're getting a nice, brand-new, shiny round peg. This kid starts next year. Sorry Tommy, you aren't what the coaching staff wants to see. Tommy will be used similarly to Braxton Miller.

Was thinking the same thing today. This kid will make a run at starter next year as he is what fits this staff. I thought Tommy early this year showed some improvement but did not play well today and telecast kept showing how poor his technique is. I don't recall them pointing out Stave's issues.

at this point Ive changed my tune and am in total agreement on this notion. At first, i thought Tommys early season progression was huge in that Obrien could redshirt. But tommys starting to revert again. And Obrien coming in January means he's coming to play NOW. And he's the best hope for this staff for theyve proved more than once now that theyre actually NOT capable of stepping out of their comfort zone to put the current players in theirs, for the sake of winning now.
