Torn ACL is pretty bad. Some people never get all the way back.

It's really not.  A lot of the time, the player comes back even stronger. I had a QB who tore ACLs in both knees in back-to-back seasons, and he still made it back and played D-1 Power 5 football. Plenty of current NFL players who have have torn their ACL one or more times.
