Special Teams

We had some pretty rotten luck, like they punt and it rolls forward 30 yards while our punt immediately bounces 15 yards backwards.

But Armstrong wasn't good today, especially in the second half. The punt exchange just prior to the possession with the 4th and inches really hurt us badly.

They’ve been consistently terrible all season. I have to think we would have tried an onside kick at the end if our kicker could be trusted.
I feel like if you have 3 min and two TO and you know they are going to run it you should be able to get that stop so I’m +\- on trying an onside there. But yes our ST is an embarrassment

Yes, the lack of improvement and seeming total lack of attempt at special teams is very concerning. It would be the one knock on this staff so far. Our piss poor ST’s play was very likely the difference between a win and loss today. Frost needs to quit paying it lip service and fix that sh#t. We can blame a lack of jimmies and joes for a lot of our woes but ST is a direct result of how much emphasis the coaches put (or don’t put) on it. If it was just bad it would be one thing but it has been much worse than that.

Yeah we have plenty of talent to field a competent ST squad and you know, not kick a kickoff backwards and follow it up with a uncontested blocked punt and a kick out of bounds. Then there is the always vital 30 yard punt avg. on the day. We can look at a lot of things that would’ve changed the outcome today but the ST play probably was enough to turn this from a win to a loss and really had nothing to do with OSU having better players

Saying that our special teams suck is the understatement of the century. In fact, calling them special is an insult to the word. We need to refer to them as our s#!tty unspecial teams until they actually do something special. Don’t even get me started on the useless unspecial teams coach.

I’m sorry sir, but if you don’t consider a kickoff going backwards special then nothing is going to sway you

And with all the issues on special teams, offense sputtering, missed tackles, etc. We still almost beat the No. 10 team on the road. The same team that hasn't punted against us in what? 2-3 years? This team will be a threat next year. They already are.

-2 yards in punt return yards(including one costly non catch), 13 yard average on kick returns, blocked punt for a safety and whatever the hell the first kickoff was.

I’d say Scott may want to look into this phase of the game a little

The difference between good football teams and great football teams are the special teams. I hope the Huskers one day develop decent special teams. Right now, we have as unspecial teams as they can be.
