Spring Practice Pressers

To "buy" into this, I'd need to know which players of consequence were lured away, or required additional compensation to stay, after the spring game showcased their previously unknown talent.

Who all left after spring last year?
Great question.  I certainly don't think that any so called good players that were going to have a impact on the teams success got poached.  I can't imagine a player like Dane Key coming here and then get to the spring and he bounces just bc Ohio State would throw money at him.  I think Matt Rhule meant the guys that aren't going to start but he wants them on the team for depth purposes which I understand but you can't be afraid as a coach to lose players.  Like Amare Sanders said the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Well that and roster numbers. We have 126 guys total. Maybe 110 of them are here at the moment (non-early enrolled freshman not here yet). That doesn’t take into account players who are not healthy. We have like 5 guys on the OL that are banged up. So you are going struggle to put a competent OL in the spring game on the field. You are going to have guys playing the whole time for a practice. Risk of injury is high. Now you have NIL players making 1+ million a year. If we lose one of them that is an auto net 0 from the spring game which I believe only is about 1 million in net profit. And then the transfer portal game. I think it will be an open practice or event heavily centered around NIL donations for athletes.

And after all that the time between end of Jan ball and spring practice is essentially 3-4 weeks smaller. You want guys to rest, grow, & get healthy. I don’t see the benefit anymore of having a game.

They should have stuck with the roster and player safety excuse. This new excuse is just plain stupid. And not just as a fan (I don't know that I will miss the spring game that much and I usually only watch highlights), it would be kind of annoying hearing that as a player. You don't get to go out and have fun in front of 60,000 fans because we don't want anyone to possibly see how good you are and become competition for your talents. Oh and if you're one of the 50 players who never gets to play in front of the fans in a real game, well, now you never get to do it at all.

Well, so much for the total overhaul of STs promised a month ago. Sounds like we'll be swapping out LS for the new transfer but other than that things will stay the same since the schemes were good enough. Looking at the final NCAA ST ratings we were at the bottom or very near the bottom of every category last year. Embarrassingly bad. Hard to see how a LS will improve things like KO, KO coverage, punt returns, etc

Still believe this a done deal for Red Bull; just waiting for contract details and careful not to incur tampering or something. JMHO
