Spring Practice Pressers

I guess my question is, who would actually put enough stock in a glorified scrimmage to change their opinion on whether or not they were going to try and poach a specific player?  Protecting backup players sounds closer to the reality for me, but again, those players know their spot on the roster, and if they want to look around for a starting job I don't think whatever they would have been able to 'show' in the spring game is going to be a difference maker on getting a spot with a different team.

I have to agree.  Kind of like all those years I thought we were "hiding our real stuff" until conference play so as not to show our hand.  And then realized that what I saw in game one was really who we were......There's got to be more I would guess.  Injury concerns, cost, risk vs reward, does it make a difference as to who starts or doesn't etc....Might just be Rhule and the AD just don't want to do it and "say things" to try and not get the fan base upset.  Who knows.

I’ll trust the staff on this one. They know way more than we do on the tampering that goes on.

I can't speak to other potential players, but Barney was definitely a player teams came after following the spring game.  To your question specifically, he was a QB in HS, and therefore a projection at WR.

Regarding the presser, I don't recall ever hearing Rhule discuss NU playing a 3-4 defense before.  Perhaps I'm reading too much into his comment, but the way he presented that leads me to believe NU is going to be a base 3-4 with 3-3-5 & "4 man fronts in passing situations" sub packages.  Which are pretty natural & common progressions from a base 3-4 vs 5 man front looks.  I admittedly don't know much about Butler's background outside of Buffalo, but I don't think he's a 3-4 guy per say.  Which made that comment all the more interesting to me.

The only person from last season I explicitly remember being discussed regarding tampering was Fidone.

I enjoy Spring Rolls more than Spring games.  Jokes aside, I do feel bad for locals that want to go and enjoy it.  But there will be something going on to enjoy and it should still be a fine day out in Lincoln.

Having said that, Ever since student-athletes became paid players, nothing about college football should surprise or upset anyone.  Big Noon Football, NIL, transfers, extended playoffs, the Oregon Ducks are a member of the Big Ten conference....and we are playing conference games in back to back seasons in Southern California.

At least try to embrace the changes to college football.  I mean, we can still enjoy spending time playing SNES games on our 13" CRT for fun.  Just grab the clicker, a bag of chips and some retro games.  :P

A couple of things.

I appreciate that Matt Rhule is honest about the issues in Modern CFB.  It needs to be said.  The whole thing is a crap show right now.  I know some people don't like that he said it out loud, but so be it.

I do feel bad for people who get to go to this.  I usually just tape it and watch it later.

Being a get-off-my-lawn guy, I didn't think I would like Pro Bowl games, but this has been fun.  Maybe they could do something like this?  Bring the VB court out too?  Let them get a piece of the action.  I think they could make it a huge celebration.

Who knows?  Life is changing fast.  I am just trying to keep up.

So what’s the deal here?  Can’t they just make it a big fan fest day?  Meet the players, autographs, pictures, prizes, win tickets and merch, kick a FG, etc,  :snacks:

Nobody has actually said that there won't be any type of event happening in the spring, people are just running with Rhule's non-specific quotes and imagining and theorizing.

Dannen on his radio show also said it was HIGHLY unlikely that there would be a game this year and it will especially not be on TV, but they are trying to work something out to have some sort of fan experience.  As he put it.  "A Fall Sports showcase"  or something to that effect.
