Spring Practice Updates

A few interesting twitter updates as the team begins spring practice today.

@HuskerExtraBC

Don't read much into it but 1s on D: Moss, Curry, K Williams, Anrkah; Brown, Anderson, Santos; Mitchell, H Jackson, Cooper, SJB, Evans.

@HuskerExtraBC

Evans was the nickel. And Anderson and Santos were the LBs who got most looks when the #Huskers were in nickel.

@HuskerExtraBC

Again, doesn't mean much at all yet, but O-line 1s today: LT Qvale, LG Cotton, C Pensick, RG Long, RT Sirles. A-Rod rotating in.

@HuskerExtraBC

Zaire Anderson now wearing No. 13. Was No. 8. And D.J. Singleton is now wearing No. 8. Got it? #Huskers

CBs looked good, especially SJB and Evans. Santos at MLB right now. First day, no pads, can't make definitive statements yet.#huskers

@swmckewonOWH

Imani Cross had better burst and vision. He's faster. He's put in the work to get there. Jamal Turner looked quick, too. #huskers

@swmckewonOWH

Turner told me in interview last week that he played on partial meniscus tear at end of last yr. Got it scoped in Jan. Looked sharp today.

A. Green out for spring after shoulder surgery. Randle out, too. Throw in youth, recruits an I don't think 11 on D is remotely settled.

#Huskers CB Andrew Green, a starter in 2012, is sidelined for the entire spring. We'll find out injury on Monday. #firstspringpractice

Bo Pelini made it clear he'll spend most of his coaching time on the defensive side. Makes sense. Young players. His area of expertise.

Although I should know this already and am embarrassed to even ask, I never did catch the reason why spring practice is starting so early this year? Can anyone fill me in? Is it what the coaches wanted or something forced on them for some reason?

It fits in perfectly with the ACT and ability to get recruits to the spring game. No other major program in the B1G has a spring game the same day and only a couple of other big name programs nationally have their spring game the same day. A good number of programs have their spring game on the day of the ACT exam. Since players need to fly here instead of filling up the car of gas and making a 100 to 300 mile drive, they need to time things to get here.

To have the spring game before the ACT tests, for recruiting. We'll also be the only Big Ten SG on the 6th, so we get the BTN to ourselves.

I find it surprising CJax or J. Rose not starting after hearing what everyone else has said about them.

Still extremely early though.

Pelini mentioned last year that he liked sandwiching spring practices around spring break because it gives the coaching staff a chance to review practice film during that week off. That way they can see who is making progress and what areas need to be addressed when the players come back for the second half of spring practice.

As much as last year was sorta an indication, not seeing Seisay's name out there is a dissapointment. Guess we only really hit on the JUCO LBs (Williams, David, possibly Anderson)

Seisay was coming along i thought very well until he was hurt a few games in. i also think he was hurt before that as well. Its hard to come back on an ankle injury.

The DEs and DBs we've gotten recently haven't helped out a lot. We can't even get DTs to sign on. :(

Surprised that VV isn't on the 1st team list.
That was my biggest surprise as well.

Seemed like mostly the older players go the nod so perhaps that has something to do with it.
Was thinking the same thing, but Curry is with the ones. saunders45 has a valid point though. 1st day of practice. No reason to think this won't change when they put the pads on.
