Stadium Expansion

I love our stadium and think it is going to be an amazing place to play and watch a football game on fall Saturdays.

Kyle Field is going to be something special too.

Something else struck me though when watching the video from this link.

Listen to how important they believe the student section is. This is something that is badly missing from Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. And, for the most part, it isn't the student's fault. I would think it would be pretty hard to believe the program wants you there chearing your head off and loud when you have the worst seats in the house. Heck most of them even have worst seats than the visitor's section.

That needs to change. Sorry to all the people sitting on the East Side 50 yard line. Heck, the middle of an endzone down low would even be better than where they are at now.

The student section was in the East Stadium when I went to UNL. I understand, monetarily, why they moved the students. But it's a shame that in our biggest games we can't have our loudest fans sitting near the action.

The problem is that against Middle Directional State the students don't show up, so you have this big gap front & center in your stadium. It's a quandary.

Does anyone know the height of other tall stadiums across the country? Such as ohio stadium or kyle field?

I've heard memorial stadium's tallest height is 154 feet. Does anyone know the numbers for kyle field/ohio stadium?
All I can say is that, having sat in the lower section of the upper most endzone seating at Kyle Field, it's WAY up there. The new edition to Memorial should be pretty close to what it's like, but I couldn't find anything about the actual height of Kyle with a quick google. Kyle needs an elevators though, it seems like you have to walk in circles for 10 minutes just to get to the upper deck.

I'm with Landlord, I've always liked the look of Ohio Stadium. Never been there though.

Really the only thing they would need to do to remedy this is to take out the bleachers in the student section. The move was propogated by the students always standing, and not only standing but standing on the bleachers. If they're standing on the cement, people behind them should still be able to see just fine, right? If that's not realistic, I'm sure there would be a practical, realistic alternative solution if they'd actually think about it. It's the student's team more than anybody elses.

I'm of the opinion that the lower level of South stadium, up until the first rails/walkway, should be students all the way across.

Not related to the rest of my tOSU hate, I am not that big of fan of their stadium.

I think their facade looks very "industrial" and lacks character. The picture above just looks like a plain, white figure. Those columns and other features could have been made really cool.

I think we executed better.

The brick accents and trim add much more character.

The new turf to be 35 degrees cooler as they will be using cork pellets instead of rubber pellets.

Lighter and cooler. That could be the best way to describe the new playing surface inside Memorial Stadium that's about to be installed this summer.

NU started Monday ripping and rolling up its old FieldTurf — originally installed in 2005 — to prepare for a new, improved version of the same two-toned field.

The new FieldTurf doesn't require as much sand for the base — 40,000 fewer pounds, in fact — and the recycled tires previously used for the top layer of the field will be replaced by small granules of cork.
Thank Jesus. That turf gets ridiculously hot.
I always felt that while turf got real hot, grass was a lot more humid on a hot day.

I would be all for that. And, yes, it is the student's team first.

Yes Kyle Field is going to be THE premier facility across the country... but for the next couple years we will be the brightest and most electic looking collegiate stadium.

For those of you who haven't seen the video on Kyle field...I highly recommend watching it.

- They are expanding capacity to over 102,000... the largest in the SEC.

- They will always leave 12 seats empty to represent those who died in the 1999 bonfire.

- They're lowering the field and building canopy's above each sideline to make it louder

- They're installing 12 maroon lights outside the stadium for when the team wins games.

- They will continue to have 31,000 student seats which will comprise the east side of the stadium... they're putting in a statue of 12 men to show their pride in this.

- They're developing an entire side of their stadium into a park that will be filled with historical pieces that honor past aggies.

- The west stadium is reserved for alumni and the area outside the west side will be commemorative to the a&m values.

- They're building a 3 story sports museum inside the stadium that will also feature a merchandise store.

They will also still be claiming fake national and conference championships.

Elevator worker that is working on new addition told me that things are stacking up a bit and that total project is behind schedule. How this will relate to opening day, I am not sure? I would think they will go on a 24 hr a day, multi-shift, additional workers type effort to accomplish everything so all would be good to go by then. That's the word I got though, anyone else hear they are behind schedule?

Usually when jobs like this with a strict timeline and such, they will bring in union workers under contract and such to get it done in time. It'll be done in time one way or another.

So are there ribbon boards going in right below the highest deck?? And what is that weird space between the top of the club seats and start of the upper deck?
I think those are more suites but I could be wrong.
Yeah. I think the area behind the club seats is club level ammenities, and the areas above that in the upper deck are the suites? Or am I wrong?
Pretty sure that's exactly the way it is.

You would sure hope so!

There is no cutting of any corners in this project, or at least it looks like to me. They are making everything look great and blending it all in with original stadium look.
