Stadium Expansion

I don't know if this is old news or not, too, but they knocked down the old oak and pine trees on the east side of the stadium this week. All the students will come back from Spring Break to a very different-looking East stadium plaza.

I grabbed a couple of pine branches as I walked by. Not sure what I'll do with them, but it's interesting to have. Got a ton of sap on my hand carrying it back to the office, but I smelled so fresh.

Ha, you probably weren't aiming for humor with this post but it gave me a lil chuckle. Probably because I could see myself doing the exact same thing. It wouldn't matter if I had no immediate need for a stack of random branches, no good place to store them, and no plans for using them in the future. Yet sentimentality alone would probably cause me to gather up a whole **** worth of sappy twigs to cart off to the house...........

...........Why are we humans so weird!?! :hmmph

I'll have to run down there after class on Monday to check it out

Stranger still...most people think they're totally rational and sane. I know the truth though. Hence the medication.

Snapped a couple photos while walking by the stadium after I got off work. Tearing it up pretty good right now. The 2nd photo is really interesting, they dug down next to the stadium and the old foundation goes underground probably at least 8-10 feet if not more

It is nice as can be seen here they are keeping the homage to the Ohio Stadium Rotunda (I am a fan of that)!

I should say: the top pic.

Don't know if this link has been posted, but this is the 3D view of what it will look like finished. Legit stuff

Not sure if it will actually end up that way or not, but one thing I really liked is it looked like there would be some outdoor concourse area. The West stadium does not have this, they do have some narrow walkways to steps, but no large outdoor concourse areas. If that's what they actually are that will be cool and may be worth a move in my seating location. Just have to see what the final product turns up.

so i looked up this today and what I understand this will all be complete by 2013..so is the east side outside the stadium just gonna be a construction zone until then or is this thing gonna go in stages?

Heres a pretty rough sketchup(on paint) that I made on what I hope the stadium looks like in a few years. What do you guys think??

Those are all right, Johnny. I don't know if your one step further idea is feasible since they have classroom space over there on the south side now (where the offices and ticket office used to be), and while I like the idea of wrapping the facade around the SE corner, I think the space between the stadium and Avery is too narrow to allow it.

This. There's barely space for a "street" thing there (pathway, whatever you want to call it). But the south stadium upper deck is feasible and is probably our only option for expansion left, unless, way in the future, we add a north stadium upper deck which would involve taking out those suites and the big screen and moving them. So that is way unlikely anytime soon.

Bah, avery can be moved :) its a pretty cool to think about. I really wish they would change the west stadium facade to match what they are going to be doing with the brick and all. For some reason it bugs the sh#t out of me that they aren't keeping the same look. But I'm sure it will look fine.
