It sounds like HP came along at a similar time for you as the Hunger Games did for me. By then I already had my "things" and was completely uninterested in devouring more YA fiction. Although I would content HP has a magic that far surpasses anything comparable. My dad got quite caught up in it all (though he never finished the series, so...)
