I think there's just two schools of thought here. I mean it's like a republican vs democrat debate. Republicans seem to think that if you criticize the government you're un-american, Democrats seem to think that if you criticize the government you're being a responsible american.

Here we have people that think that criticizing the team is un-husker and some of us think that it's the responsibility of a husker fan to voice their distaste.

Two fundamentally different schools of thought that are NOT going to be reconciled, especially not on a message board.

.....

And yeah Potter played pretty damn well, his family was sitting right behind me and we were all cheering our asses off for him most of the game.

IDK, doubt it has much correlation with political ideals (but I do hear what you're saying)..... seems more like 'old school' vs. young'ns.

Good analogy.

I am not saying it's not OK to voice displeasure, but to do it during a game doesn't help the team and that's what your there for. Which is to support the team during the game. Say whatever you want afterwards. IMO.

I know there has been boos before. Now, then, in the future I still think it's dumb.
Dave H, I'm starting to worry...this is two threads today where we agree. I guess the only place we disagree is that I do think it's okay to voice displeasure on a message board. ;)

Were Potter's parents booing? I am sure they were very impressed with the booing.

Your the organizer here. Your always trying to organize something away from the Nebraska way, try to do something for the good of Nebraska if you feel that committed. Why don't you do something about the problem? Get a petition going to give to Coach Callahan if you are so displeased with Coz. Do something positive if it is in your heart.

Never a reason to boo Nebraska.

We expect loyalty, dedication and hard play from the players. No difference for the fans. We are rapidly becoming the Michigan's and Colorado's of the college football world.

I am not happy with the defensive side of the ball either. But there is little the kids can do about the situation if it is truly a coaching problem. I am not smart enough to know what is going on. I freely admit it. Some think they know, and in fact some may know exactly what is wrong. I have yet to hear the exact problem from any poster on here. Other than Coz sucks and so does BC because Pederson hired them and fired Solich.

I love this program, and have for longer than most on this board have been alive. I have attended many games at Memorial since the early 50's. I have seen the good and the bad, but I have never been as disappointed in the fans of Nebraska as I am today. I have had calls from my friends here in California asking me what's up with the booing, aren't you suppose to be the best fans in college football? You guys are there, but we are not looked as favorably around the country as we once were.

We are emabarassing ourselves. Sad

And Ihave read on other threads that our student section is the worst it ever has been. Leaving in the third quarter during SC and boing continously yesterday.

You all seem to have big mouths when know one knows who your are. I suggest you walk up to one of the players and tell them just how bad they suck and you don't like it. I doubt your crowd bravery will be there.

I think he has a reason to be pissed off, but at the same time I think he is bright enough to know that the defense is sucking bad!!!! He is one of the constant figures this season on the defensive side of the ball that is playing with passion and determination. That is what a blackshirt is!!!! I feel like our tradition of the blackshirts is starting to disappear. Last season I saw numerous times when the bones were thrown. I've seen it maybe twice this season!!! Our defense has no passion to play it seems like they give up??? I don't know what the answer is, but I can't sit here and say that I wouldn't have booed if I was at the game yesterday because that was ridiculous. It was almost like "Hurry up and score so we can get the ball back and score again because time is running out!"

At least it shows there is still some fight and some pride left in him. I'll never boo the Big Red, but I can't say the same for the coaching staff. I've been a Callahan supporter, but if he doesn't get rid of Cosgrove then they all need to go.
How will the players know you're booing the coaches and not them?

I disagree simply because there are many ways to "criticize" the coaches/teams/players. The least constructive of which is booing. I'm not sure what the political equivalent for booing would be (probably calling in to Ernie Chambers' show and harrassing him??) but there definitely is a spectrum of how this criticism can be displayed.

What's wrong with what he said? Players don't come here because of the fans. They really don't care about what you have to say about their team. They appreciate that you support them, but I don't think they really give a crap about how you think they should react and play.

I've never understood booing. People will see that "well, I was booing the coaches." Well, guess what, the players hear it too. You think the players know you are booing and one of the 100 people on the sidelines? No. They are playing the game, the fans are watching the game. The fans boo, the player hear it. I don't care how bad it get's, I think booing your own team during a game is dumb.

It's gotta be frustrating as a player to hear that. Octo was one of the only backers that was running around the field, getting his nose in plays so it's gotta be even more frustrating.
I agree Dave.

The guy just got out of a game that he played well but the folks around him did not with the exception of Dillard( Who shbould be starting IMO).

He had to be frustrated. Cut him some slack.

We as Husker fans and Nebraskans pride ourselves on class. Fans from teams who visit are consistently impressed with our hospitality and our sportsmanship. It is mentioned every single home game how we never boo the opposing team. How can we cherish our reputation for never booing opposing players and yet BOO OUR OWN? Anyone who boos the players is a fairweather fan!

The defensive players know they are struggling and they need our support. They are young men who get emotional. They want nothing more than to perform well and stand on the field while we cheer their dominance. If they can't give us the Blacksirts of 95' let's at least cheer their effort! Don't question their heart. Encourage them like you would your own brother or son!

GBR!!!

not sure if anyone has brought it up yet, but Zambrano said that a couple of weeks ago. I frankly don't have a problem with booing. I was booing at the game I am not going to say I was only booing at the coaches but the defence in general, some players get motivated by it, I guess Octavian doesn't

Where I come from, players get motivated by cheering.

I only listened to the game on the radio so I didn't get to actually see anything except for highlights but I do know our defense has been really struggling the last 3 games. I am guessing that somewhere along the line the chemistry got lost and it will only be a matter of time before we get that back together and prove that they are the blackshirts. What they need right now is support from the fans and coaches and a leader. Someone that can step up and get things back in line. I know Keller is a pretty good leader on offense and I think that if we can get one like that on defense we could be a pretty dangerous team.

Oh, and if you really think the players don't come here because of what the fans think or say, read some of the quotes from recruits who take visits and committ. Many of them mention the fan base and how they were treated by fans at the games. Many of them mention how fans knew wjo they were and how pumped up fans are about the team. Players ultimately have an inner-drive that motivates them, but if you think they don't hear the boos and the boos don't bother them, you are mistaken. Look at Octavien's quote!
