Still want to keep Diaco?

When it was all said and done Nebraska finished 30th in total defense under Banker last season.  That got him fired.

Diaco's unit is currently ranked 43rd.

Like Diaco or not I think the idea of a new coach keeping him on his staff are somewhat laughable. New coach will bring in his coordinators and likely most position coaches. Maybe one coach gets retained if Riley is canned, but I don't even think that is likely.

Yes--the offense did jack and s*** to help out the defense in the second half.

Granted, I would have liked to see Diaco take a TO on that second Wisky offensive series to get the D's head on straight...but the defense was hung out to dry by our offense. This would have been much worse if we still had our old DC in there.

Defense struggled all game.  Offense missed too may opportunities to capitalize in the first half.  Wiscy is a much better team than us.   Hats off.

A lot of the first half appearing close was a mirage caused by a s#!t ton of early penalties in Wisc that killed their drives. They were still moving the ball fairly consistently and well even if they didn't break open the scoring until the second half.

Yeah, it put them in long down and distance that led to a lot of incompletions, and that really prevented them from playing like they wanted. In this regard, I don't like what I heard in Diaco's press conference. He seems to present this as a 19 minute game, citing the score at 1:20 in the first half ( the big TD run) and near the third quarter as examples of acceptable score differentials. He focuses on the final three drives where Wisconsin ran the ball up and down the field, rather than the entire game.

I can understand tryin to be positive to the media and presenting this as a correctable situation, especially with such a dominant opponent coming to town, but I hope privately he realizes this started well before the second half.

Fine, maybe I am putting too much blame on Diaco's D. He didn't get any help from the offense in the 2nd half. But wow, the D couldn't make a stop when it needed it to.

The D was gassed in the second half and got no help from the offense but everyone and their damn grandmas knew they were going to run the ball all day long. I’m no defensive mastermind and I was literally sitting at the game calling Wisconsin’s exact running plays before they happened pretty much all second half.

Diaco didn't miss any tackles.  In the 3-4, the linebackers have to tackle.  Our linebackers stink.  It's just that simple.  I've said it a million times.  We don't have talent.  it showed again tonight against a team that many on this board think have less talent than us.  Did it really look that way to anybody?
