Have any of the student organizations requested a meeting with the AD's office on this matter? Before somebody embarrasses themselves lodging a stupid protest, come up with a plan for the student section, find somebody to represent the students, and present a plan as to why and where you want the students section to be.

One thing that annoys me about this, is that Osborne has repeatly said he hates the commercialization of college football, but this exactly what it leads to. Besides moving back I think there should be more than 8000 student tickets. TO keeps on talking about acedemics, which has to do with the students so he should reward them for supporting the team. To be honest the atsmosphere (loudness) at Memorial is not that good, we have great fans not loud. At OU the students are right behind the vistors bench which makes more of an effect that the kids in the upper corner of the stadium. If the people behind don't like it then they can give their tickets up. I know it isn't financially good to have a ton of student section but there needs to be quite of bit.

Did you read the article in the original post? ASUN has been in discussion with the University over this matter for months, but yet the university only dropped discussions until recently. When they re-opened them, they had a plan already set in place and the proposed plan from the students simply was not 'feasible' because tickets were already being distributed.
The common thing I got out of Osborne's email is "Blah blah blah .. I'll do as I please."
TO really dropped the ball on this one to appease only a few, rather than a university of students. He needs to realize where his loyalties are. If those ticket holders do not want the seats, tell them to take a hike as there are quite a few others I'm sure that would love to have those seats. If they think their seats aren't satisfactory, donate more to move elsewhere.
Heck, maybe since TO loves his skybox so much, he would be willing to give out a few seats in that. I mean, this is all in fairness, correct?
As a student ticket holder, I received this email from the athletic department. The new seating arrangement isn't as terrible as the DN made it out to be.

First and foremost, thank you for supporting our football team. As we await the start of spring football, I hope this finds you well and looking forward to the April 19 Spring Game. As promised, we have been searching for a solution to the problems occurring in sections 12, 13, 14 and 15 in the South Stadium as well as overcrowding in the East Stadium. As you are well aware as a student season ticket holder in 2007, we have had increased conflict between our students, season ticket holders, security and event staff members. Concerns have escalated over the past few years and have caused unsafe situations for students and season ticket holders.
With assistance from ASUN, who submitted two new seating options to the Athletic Department and to the Fan Behavior Group last fall, the Athletic Department has approved the implementation of Option 1 (general admission seating, preference for upperclassmen in the East and elimination of block seating) for the 2008 football season with one addition—student seating will extend to the top of the South Stadium, just as it currently does in the East Stadium. In return for your movement, UNL student ticket holders of the future will receive additional student tickets in the total allotment; preferences for juniors and seniors and potentially some sophomores in the preferred East Stadium; general admission seating in both the East and South Stadiums which will reward those who come early and more accurately reflect the current seating practices; and a guarantee of no increase in student ticket prices over the next four years (2008-2011). We hope you will support this solution.
The Athletic Department will begin the process of relocating season ticket holders out of the upper sections of 12, 13 and 14. The student seating will now extend to the top of sections 12, 13 and 14 and will no longer be located in section 15. While I know there are concerns that students are losing lower seats in parts of section 14, I feel compelled to alert you that regardless of where the student section begins in Section 14, the lowest rows of this section will continue to be reserved for non-traditional students, student-athletes and Husker recruits on official visits. Therefore, the general student body is not losing these closest-to-the-field seats in those sections. While block seating that previously occurred during signup will no longer be in effect (per ASUN Option #1), those students who come together can sit together, much like the current practice. The Athletic Department will provide wristbands for those students with preferred seating in the East Stadium, to protect students from overcrowding. Those who prefer to sit with underclassmen may still do so in the South Stadium by indicating that preference upon signup.
I can assure you that moving students up in the South Stadium will not produce a financial windfall for the Athletic Department. Fans who are moved to lower sections will not be required to pay more. Also, the higher one sits, the better the view of the entire playing field. I sit high in the North Stadium and see the game much better than those in the lower rows.
In April, we will have season ticket signup by class status, with seniors allowed to sign up first and to pick their seating preference (April 7-9), followed by juniors (April 10-12), sophomores (April 13-15) and freshmen (April 16 and beyond). I apologize for missing your link to the story. I saw the email though. There was no reason given for the discussions being dropped until recently. My guess is there was some misunderstandings between the parties and someone sold allotments of tickets before they were supposed to. It's too bad both parties can't come to an arrangement of some sort. Well at least TO owned up to the deal. His predacessor would have passed the buck. Hopefully TO can make this right somehow.
There's a life lesson to be learned in all this. Life is full of not fair. Whether it be politicians we elect or the bosses we work for, it has been accepted in today's society to disenfranchise the majority not to offend the few. Sad......

Out of curiousity does anyone know exactly how many students will be moved? How many actually sit in section 15? the majority of the students sit in 12-14 anyway. Maybe i am misinterpreting this but there will actually be MORE students able to atted games now...isn't that what people want? No im not "buying into the kool aid of the department" as im sure those posts will fly. I think this is a pretty decent plan and IMO a bunch of assumptions were made that were unjust. Dunno...it doesn't seem as bad as originally thought. I think this will do more for unifying the students, and all being general admission will make the people that actually wanna be there get there early. I hated sitting among students that were there for the social aspect (there are some i know....shocking)

Out of curiousity where do you sit? I have sat in the South and East sections and they are TOTALLY different. I have seen students drinking before, during, and at half time of the game and passing out. I KNOW im not the only one that sees this. The drinks students bring in are checked by "taking a big drink" and watching the reaction. Most students can handle this. Im not saying all students bring alcohol in and are rude, crazy, etc....but there is ALOT of that going on that I think this is trying to stop.
Maybe you are surrounded by good people and you are VERY lucky because thats not all of who is sitting there.
Just some food for thought...alcohol is part of the reason for this as safety has become an issue due to it. How many people on here were up in arms because the spring game wasnt a night game and they couldnt "prep" for the game? I know ALOT of students who were mad for that exact reason.

Next thing you know the people who were moved in front of the students will be complaining that they can't hear their head-set radios because the students are too loud and yelling in their ears...

First of all, I think it is kinda dumb to move them back, however I have sat directly behind the students and it did suck. How about spend some money to sink the student section 4 feet into the ground so they can stand, yet be close enough to be involved in the game. :thumbs

As a current student and former ASUN Senator I can tell you that this situation is about the norm when it comes to decision-making at the University. They invite us to meetings and ask our opinions (which is great) but as soon as we don't agree *bam* it's not our choice to make. I think a lot of the uproar you have heard and will hear in the coming days is not based on the details of the plan but rather how this was communicated to the student leaders and then the students themselves.
When it comes to the details themselves there isn't a whole lot of change. Sure we lose Section 15 (which is where I usually sit) but we gain seats in the transfer. Student section always was general admission it just wasn't explicitly stated. Supposedly no front row seats for paying students will be lost, only those for athletes and recruits. I think the biggest point of contention will be the loss of block seating. I can tell you that the Greek Community is up in arms about this. Its loss kills one of the great fraternity/sorority traditions at UNL, the Football Block.
To respond to a couple comments about the student section itself... Where I sat in Section 15 the students stood on the concrete for the most part. I choose not to drink before games but a lot of my friends do. Some of my friends that do security have told me that usually less than 10 students are kicked out for unruly/alcohol related behavior (Out of 8,500). When it comes to standing the only time kids in my section ended up on the bleachers was 1) during a big play or 2) when someone was inside the 5 yard-line in our endzone. Any other time and security forced everyone down. I think you are simply more energetic when standing. Obviously this is not without exception, those of you on this message board are big enough fans to spend time out of your day actively discussing the Huskers so I'm sure you're just as effective sitting as standing. I do not, however, believe this true of an average fan. I had an injury this past fall which required me to stop and rest after walking more than a few blocks. I couldn't stand for more than 5 minutes at any given time. I was able to sit during timeouts/clock stoppages/between plays and still stand for every play this season (I understand everyone is different but it can be done).
If you haven't guessed yet, yes I am against this change. I do not think anything can be done now but I still think the students should and will try.

You know....it might do some of those blue hairs some good to get off their fanny and circulate some blood to their brain. If they want to sit and watch the game, go to Brewsky's and watch the game on TV, you can also get appetizers!! to make that fanny even bigger. :sarcasm
There are far too many long posts in this thread so I'll make this as short as possible.
I understand you students are disappointed with TO's decision, and I understand you pay $500/credit hour........however, there are many, many, many people that have paid that money that can't even get tix to a Nebraska game. So consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to get season tix every year.....because it's not gonna last long. Not to mention the top notch education you are receiving........
