BRONCOS SIGN FREE-AGENT LB T.J. HOLLOWELL

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Saturday signed free-agent linebacker T.J. Hollowell to a two-year contract, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hollowell (6-foot-0, 235 pounds) is a third-year player who has appeared in six career regular-season games, playing two contests with the New York Jets in 2005 and four with the New York Giants in 2004. He entered the NFL with the Giants in 2004 as an undrafted free agent from the University of Nebraska.

The 25-year-old joins the Broncos after he was waived by Chicago on June 16. He spent the final five weeks of the 2005 season on the Bears’ practice squad and also was on the active rosters of Miami and the New York Jets last season. He began 2005 on the Giants’ practice squad before signing with the Jets.

As a rookie with the Giants in 2004, he spent the first five weeks of the season on New York’s practice squad before finishing the year on its active roster.

In four years at Nebraska, Hollowell posted 173 tackles (76 solo), 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. He started all 12 games in 2003 as an honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference selection who posted 75 tackles that season.

At Copperas Cove High School in Copperas Cove, Texas, Hollowell was a Class 5A all-state selection as a senior and became the school’s career leader in tackles (311).

Thomas Anthony Hollowell was born April 8, 1981.
