There would be absolutely no excuse for such a collapse, and it would all but confirm this was the wrong hire. Waiting 3 to 4 years to confirm it would be a waste of time and would risk NU falling into true obscurity.

It amazes me how many people are willing to defend Bo Pelini. I can't understand it. It's craziness. It's almost a sickness.

How can a Nebraska fan have any respect for the guy? He's got no respect for you.

He hates your program. He wishes he had never come here and he wanted to get out a long time ago. It's your fault Husker fans. It's your fault Eichorst. We made this too hard for him and it almost cost him his life or eventually would have....right?

He's poisoned what was once one of the most unified fan/team relationships in the history of this game.

If you'd have told me that one guy would come into this program and create so much division and toxicity, I'd have said NO WAY, NOT HERE. It won't ever happen at Nebraska.

Instead, some of the classiest fans in the country, and a team that is usually full of some of the most passionate, classy, loyal, committed, hard working, non-stop high integrity type of players, is now full of resentment for the very people that load the stadium 90,000+ strong, even when some players make it obvious as ever that they don't want to be here and they hate playing for the Big Red.

We've got a Husker legacy player flipping off the Husker crowd? How the hell could a kid whose father played as an All American Center at Nebraska, now have such a lack of respect for this program? If a legacy player feels that way, imagine some of Bo's even more loyal minions who aren't born and bred Husker red.......

And we've got fans who still jock ride the guy who preached this garbage every Sunday like a pastor to the church.

What's interesting to me is the thought experiment that Riley gets up to 9/10 wins a season consistently got a period of 5 years. Does NU keep him? Because at least some here argue that if Bo was nicer, he would have been retained. For others, they say that "plateauing" at that level is an unacceptable failure.

9 games into Bo's first season he had two blowouts to the tune of 52-17 and 62-28. Those mostly disappeared the next two years, but then reared their extremely ugly heads all of the next four seasons. Riley's been in every game thus far. Without making a claim about that specifically, I'll say that if Riley can start winning more of the close ones, and gets to the 9/10 win average, while avoiding the 50+ to 30- blowout games, he'll be just fine.

Those bad losses... has NU played any teams this season that were of the caliber of those opponents?

I'm on board with Nebraska canning Bo Pelini, because it was pretty obvious that he wasn't the answer for our program, nor was our program what he wanted. I don't have a blanket philosophy that all .700 coaches should be fired.

So always keep the blowouts in mind, because they matter obviously, but they seem to be clouding everyone's memory of all the slim victories and close calls against these very same teams that we are SO MUCH MORE TALENTED than.

Thankfully, Taylor Martinez, Ameer Abdullah, Rex Burkhead, Ndamukong Suh, and Alex Henery were all Huskers.

Who has filled those shoes this season in those 5 games that have went the other way by the slimmest of margins?

Bo's track record against Wisky speaks for itself, same with Northwestern, Miami not much different and we all about Minnesota's record versus Bo ........I think 4-4 would be his best right now.

Yeah, but it's entirely possible the toxic stew and threadbare depth at Nebraska might have a direct impact on our current football program.

Bo Pelini's name is gonna come up for years. Just as Solich and Callahan and Pederson do.

This roster is not threadbare in terms of talent. Despite injuries, the team is fielding talented players. attrition is about equal to all other programs. Im sick of this player bashing based excuse.

There's not a team in America that doesn't appear thin at a position here or a position there.

There's also not a college football analyst in America who didn't declare Nebraska's secondary young, thin, unproven and a major liability before the season.

We didn't wreck Miami last year, they wrecked themselves with 4 interceptions in a close game. Northwestern this year is twice the team it was last year. Remember, if not for Ameer, McNeese St beats us last year. Bo couldn't beat Wisky, and Minnesota had Bo's number. Illinois is the only game in which I chalk up to coaching, and even thats getting harder to do. The players aren't running the right plays, and are not doing there jobs.

I keep hearing run the ball more, but this offensive line isn't the 95' o-line. Its not even the 2003 offensive line. Sure wear teams out going into the 4th quarter by running. That was a great philosophy back in the day of having multiple pro caliber O-lineman. They are the ones who wore out defenses, not our fullbacks and running backs. Wake Up, this still isn't and will never be those road grader type line man here again. Those days are over. Just because we recruit player here and they wear that N on the helmet doesn't mean they are all star caliber players any more. They are leftovers that didn't get offers from other schools looking for a place to play and get a free education.

Osborne hired Pedersen to be his Assoc AD for football (basically his Jamrog) and his tecruiting coordinator for a couple years in the 90s. Also gave a string rec for pedersen for AD. Ive been told how ironic it was that TO took Pedersens place when it was TOs words that got Steve the job to begin with.

Lots of clips in these BTN specials on Brook and 94 that happen to show Pedersen roaming the sideline.

Another potentially overlooked guy is Nate Gerry, who is the ace ballhawker (5 interceptions) but also punishes the ballcarrier. I think Banker will install, or unearth, some underlying toughness, and get this talented bunch to play to their high potential.

The secondary thrived in the old regime’s system. Nothing came easy for opposing quarterbacks and receivers as NU’s defensive backs played with physicality and aggression. They can carry over that same mentality this year, though there will be a bit more pressure on them to play as cleanly as possible. Mistakes could be costly. So safety Nate Gerry will have to pick up where he left off after a breakout year and cornerback Daniel Davie needs to build off his junior season. They’ll be the leaders of this unit.
