Tangent Thread - 2018 Edition

Just as a reminder every one - as this article is behind a pay wall, it would be ill-advised to post direct quotes or some of the new information from the article. I will post this in the OP so everyone sees it.

That said, part one was really good. Several pieces of info. that haven't really been discussed yet (at least from what I've seen and heard). Ronnie Green's timeline for deciding Riley needed to be fired plus some history behind Moos' career aspirations.

Its not behind a pay wall if you subscribe the newspaper, it is on everyone's door step.  I don't understand how we can't discuss something that is in a paper???

OWH lays off 40 people and now we cant talk about what they write. Lame

It's not on everyone's doorstep. You need to pay for a subscription.

That said, in the past, digital lines were blurred as there was no hard wall to their content and savvy people could use some workarounds to read it. Now, the OWH is saying you have to pay to see this particular story. If the story is not behind their pay wall, sharing a link and discussing is reasonable. If it is behind a paywall, we need to be more careful.

Because not everyone subscribes to the paper, and their online edition is locked behind a paywall.

Ok, that's true, but the issue has always been that we can't link to pay stuff or quote it directly but we can talk about it.  I mean all of the articles in recruiting that are behind pay walls are described, sometimes even with a "hey I don't pay for this, can someone summarize" post and then it is talked about.

It's one thing to describe the article, but Enhance's post talks about lifting direct quotes from the story and posting it here, which is a sticky wicket in terms of legality and liability.

So I subscribe to Netflix, others on here don't.  I can't talk about what happened on a show on a discussion board?  This is getting kind of stupid.  They can't stop people from discussing what they read.  That is ridiculous.

I'm talking about this part...

The part of that quote that you chose not to bold is the most important part, though. Enhance is talking specifically about posting DIRECT quotes or new information from the article. That means, copying and pasting from the article, to here, not talking about it.

Direct quotes from a story that require a paid subscription would fall under the guise of posting premium content. Paraphrasing the info. is a touchy area as well, though it happens and is difficult to police with 100% efficiency.

I don't believe it's unreasonable to request people use their better judgement with this. Discuss and use caution. Don't post direct quotes.

No, I chose not to bold it because that is not what I'm talking about.  I understand you can't post direct quotes.  That is fine.  However, talking about information gleaned from reading an article in a public forum is not illegal or cause liability in anyway.  Sorry guys, we just aren't going to agree here.
