Tangent Thread - December 2015 Edition

And if you honestly appraised the talent of this team, it made sense to get the ball to Westerkamp, Moore, Reiley and Carter as often as you gave it to Newby, Cross, Janovich and Ozigbo.
Well .. we completed almost as many passes to our opponents as we did to Moore or Carter.

Did you really wonder why a stable of mules didn't work when trying to win the Kentucky Derby?
Didn't Callahan V.1 show that a pass happy, West coast style offense not fit I Lincoln?
Looks like Callahan V.2 is doubling down on the stupid.
It wasn't Callahan's offense that got him fired.
One of the great fallacies is that Callahan ran an effective offense. More times than not, it was offensive failures that led to defensive blow ups. Sound familiar? Look at the Purdue game this year.

Great point. The offense did little in 2007 losses to Missouri, Okie State, and Texas A&M. It wasn't until he decided to pad his stats that the Callahan offense looked "great".

His offense was getting better, Joe Ganz had no difficulties running the WCO. He was fired because the defense went to crap. The offense was doing well enough to have a winning season if the defense had just been average instead of horrible.

It's strange how it's always the same that trash every coach. Prolly called for TO's head a time or two as well. Maybe we should hire you guys and see what type of offensive and defense you would run.

"In my grandpas voice" We have to get back to the option game if we want to win. Give it to the fullback 15 times a game. A forward pass wtf is that??

Do you carry a little red mao book too? Go back and look at the stats from the Callahan years and early Bo years. It was the defense stupid....

The complaints have been that every thread turns into the same thing.

There are plenty of places to argue about the talent on the roster and how it's being used. A thread congratulating the players that made all-conference teams doesn't need to be another one.
Then why not address all the other threads that devolve into the same arguments? Only threads "congratulating" player accomplishments are subject to having tangent posts removed?

It's nothing personal against you, Mav. I hope you know that. I'm just curious about the enforcement/application here.
No, I know exactly what you're saying. You don't know how many times over the last 3-4 months I've said "I'm really going to look for derailing/off topic posts and try to redirect them."

The problem is, when the results are as bad as they've been this year, the bad stuff is 99% of what people talk about. It's almost impossible - for me at least - to pick out a thread and say "anyone trying to bring negativity into this thread is just trolling." The All-Conference thread was one place where that was obvious.

Look at the threads that have been posted to today. There's a tread about a bowl game, another bowl thread, a Banker thread, a TA thread, a Callahan thread, a thread about a different coach people wanted instead of Riley, a thread about Accountability, a thread about a future QB, a thread about the coaches' bowl bonuses, another thread about a preferred coach, and another TA thread. Which of those threads can you really say it's out of place for someone to bring up something that didn't go very well this year? Same deal - I'm not trying to be a jerk to you, it's just really hard to say "you shouldn't be posting that here" in most of those threads.

There are a few "other" threads today - Vote 4 Ameer, a couple All-B1G threads, a LB thread, the Restaurant thread and a Piesman thread. Other than people talking about tipping at restaurants, those threads have a combined 47 replies and most of those are in the All-B1G thread where I moved the above posts from.

It's frustrating to me because I understand people who say "people are just being negative in every thread." I'd really like to be able to do something about it. The problem is the negative things are what people like to argue about and there's plenty of that to go around right now.

If I had more time to really sift through all the treads, I'm sure there are posts that could be moved. But for the most part, the line is so grey and, honestly, things start to blur together.

If anyone has a solution, I'd love to hear it. If there are off-topic posts, I guess you could reply saying you think it's off topic and a Mod could pick it up but that's going to be a lot of arguing about whether it actually is or not.

I just don't know what the solution is - other than the Huskers playing better.

Incorrect. Everything was wrong with Callahan V.1. Remember USC?

CM is 100% correct.

It's funny how those that militantly defend Callahan V.2 also seem to wax nostalgic about Billy C.V.1.

What about the Purdue game?? We played a backup qb and the rest of the team never got off the plane. Riley runs a fantastic offense if only he had a qb that did not play in hero mode all game long.

Is hero ball the new term we are using?

Ahem.

#1 - No Flaming/Trolling/Defamatory posts

Strong opinions are encouraged, and debated is not only welcomed – it's the main reason the board exists. If what you are considering posting doesn’t advance the issue being discussed – if it’s just taking a “shot” at someone – then either don’t post it, or phrase it in a way that meets the rules. There is absolutely no reason to verbally attack another user (aka flaming), and/or posting a message for the express purpose of generating a negative response (trolling). Any defamatory posts made against HuskerBoard, its representatives, or any other member may result in an immediate ban or temporary account disablement.Posts outside of the general theme of the topic which you are posting within will be moved or deleted.

I said "hero mode" try to be more accurate when quoting.
