Surprise, surprise!    Another “official”’punts without any decision on even having practices in a few days.  lol

Now Fauci says “perfect protection” from the virus requires masks AND goggles / face shields!    And maybe - someday maybe - he’s cautiously hopeful that a vaccine or other therapy will be developed to help reduce the severity of the illness.   This - after 7 months now, billions spent with all sorts of drug & science companies  and researchers worldwide to aid them in the search for something to fight covid 19, that is his latest public declaration of the virus gospel

according to Fauci!   ugh. 

Its time for something else.

The epidemiologists have always erred on the side of what it takes to stop the virus itself and left it to policy makers to decide how and what to enforce. If you recall, they've already conceded on "perfect" protection long ago and have simply said social distancing, hand-washing, and even the crappiest cloth facial covering makes a significant difference. 

But we can't even do that. By most accounts the recent surge comes from Americans deciding to screw this and party. Large, maskless gatherings were always the #1 thing to avoid and in a show of independence America has proved it can ignore science and blame science at the same time. 

The scientists actually have been announcing good news. There's been a lot of progress on the treatment and preparation front, helping keep hospitalizations and fatalities down even as the cases hit historic highs. New evidence suggests a mutating strain that is even more communicable but less dangerous, so everything is in flux and no answer is going to please everybody. 

I have noted that many of the folks who want to ditch Dr. Fauci had absolutely no trouble latching onto the people in white lab coats pitching hydroxycholoroquine on the Capitol Steps, backed by their simultaneous belief in demon sperm and alien DNA.

I can't tell...are you not a fan of Fauci?

 
No answer is NOT an answer, period.  If Fauci has no answer, he has no right telling any other doctors how NOT to try to save their dying patients.  He has been studying infectious diseases his entire 7 decade life!   Masks, shields, quarantines and safe distancing has been used for 200 years for God’s sake.   How can it take him this long to proclaim this stuff after saying the opposite initially?    

There are as a matter of fact millions and millions and millions of people using hydroxy and several other treatments around the world.  Thousands of MDs from around the world say it helps!  

Is it perfect in all cases?  Apparently not but Fauci approves giving it routinely to our armed forces and tourists and other travelers as a matter of preventative course before overseas travel.   

I am no expert but I am just sick and tired of the naysayers who are opposed to anything being tried while people are dying without hope.   

Death rates are low and getting lower but no thanks to Fauci imo.  DRs are experimenting where the rules permit and some are doing better than others.   

Masks are not the answer or Fauci would have said so back in February.   imo.   He blew it - big time - and cant admit it.  There were no short supplies of homemade masks EVER.   And how can he have been THE EXPERT in charge of all things epidemic management (CDC director for decades) and lead the nation - the world for that matter-and the USA has inadequate supplies of masks, ventilators, PPEs, basic supplies, etc etc. ?

CDC - national leadership response - an “F”.  

Protecting at risk public from the outset- an “F”. 

Isolating the sick and elderly is just basic common sense - especially when dealing with a relatively new coronavirus.   This was known by February.  Yet he did nothing and watched NY and NJ and MI governors order sick covid patients put into nursing homes and ten thousand die!

Dr. Fauci and pretty much the entire medical community tried to warn and educate American on the common sense practices the upcoming pandemic would bring. But we called even that an over-reaction until the death count started climbing. Putting that on Dr. Fauci is the horses#!t of a Trump apologist. 

You can keep repeating your facemask timeline all you want, but you have it wrong.

The President of the United States undercut his pandemic response team long before the pandemic and got people like you to blame scientists for his own wildly inconsistent and self-serving declarations. 

Dr. Fauci and pretty much the entire medical community also turned immediately to hydroxycholoroquine because it had been successful treating malaria. The results were promising, inconclusive and in certain situations dangerous. They still are. The doctors never removed hydroxychloroquine from consideration, but they were rightfully concerned that the President was going on TV and declaring it a simple cure. 

Everything else you wrote is also misleading, but I don't want to make an 84HuskerLaw post out of this.

Trump never said it was the answer - he said it was promising in some studies.  It is.  millions have used.

Apples to Oranges. Dosage is completely different. 400 mg a week for Malaria prevention (per Johns Hopkins). For Covid treatment they would be taking 800mg the first day alone, then 400 mg a day, each day after (per Johns Hopkins). 800% increase can take its toll, especially in the kidneys. Also for Malaria prevention, it's given to healthy individuals. People with Covid are already taking a beating on their internal organs. You're oversimplifying something that is not simple.

There is not a single credible study those shows hydroxychloroquine has any impact in patient recovery. Trump's current favorite study from Detroit is getting torn apart by the medical community. It's as safe as any other medication that can cause (among other things):

  • blistering, peeling, loosening of the skin
  • chest discomfort, pain, or tightness
  • difficulty breathing
  • feeling that others are watching you or controlling your behavior
  • feeling, seeing, or hearing things that are not there
  • no pulse or blood pressure
  • unconsciousness

But, we accept these risks because they aren't extremely common and hydroxychloroquine is extremely effective at preventing malaria. Reward > Risk.

It doesn't (they don't). Again, there is no credible evidence hydroxychloroquine has any measurable benefit for those infected with COVID-19.

Risks > Reward

If there is no benefit (other than a false sense of security) then any increased risk from taking hydroxychloroquine should immediately disqualify its use (surprise, surprise that's exactly what is happening). 

If this was so effective, why are the only people supporting it either Trump supporters or crazies that believe medicine is made from Alien DNA and that demons visit us in our dreams to steal our sperm and reproduce? 

But hey @84HuskerLaw I heard Dr Pepper enemas are showing promising results in treating COVID patients. They say it's even more effective than hydroxychloroquine. Better start stocking up now.
