Tangent Thread - P&R Edition

Yeah it's just a button click from what I understand. IMO, it's a headache I'm currently glad we don't have to deal with. It feels like every week I see at least one or two people who get fussy in a thread because somebody laughed at their post or +1'd a post they think is dumb. And as much as I'd like to think/hope the arguing would be reserved for the Shed, it would probably start a lot of tiny pissing matches in the forums.

I don't mean to throw Blitz under the bus, but he's a recent example of someone who made a mountain out of a mole hill with it about a week ago with the below post. Looking back through his activity, 'every single one of my posts' was not accurate at all. It was two posts in the same thread. And all of the overall 'laugh' reactions he had received in recent weeks largely came from different people and in different threads/contexts.

Not to mention... the laughing reaction adds positive reputation to the receiver. So, if somebody thinks that they're irritating or in some way poking fun at someone for issuing a 'Laugh' reaction, I think it's worth noting that they're only adding to their positive rep.

Perhaps a one-week trial would be a good test of the forum's ability to handle this sort of thing.

Those are all very smart and intelligent people.

I'm more curious who's putting the +1s on posts like Ford's up there, or who was going around putting the laughing face on Redux's posts about a year ago. That really bothered him, and that person clearly knew it.

I think it's been a little while since the topic was visited with the other mods/admins but probably doesn't hurt to check in. I don't think there are a lot of strong feelings one way or the other on it to be honest.

If it is something that's turned on though, I don't think it would take many incidents of people bringing negative attention to it in the threads for it to come to a quick death.

I love Whose Line but the real underrated gem was the Drew Carey Show. One of my favorite sitcoms of all time, just superbly written and acted, IMO. Never failed to make me laugh. It's a shame they had hangup with music rights and can't offer anything beyond the first season on DVD. Very hard to find in syndication.

I used to watch Whose Line pretty regularly. Those guys are amazing at impromptu

This conversation would probably be better reserved for the P&R forum. Thanks!

I read the "Thanks" in the same tone that my mom would give me when she was sick of my s#!t, yet still wanted to maintain some semblance of calm.

Status updates don't have to be locked, they can be deleted by a Mod.

If, for some reason, there was a status about politics on the front page, that is.
