Tangent Thread - P&R Edition

Everyone keeps citing “cases”.  They are irrelevant for this discussion.  Deaths are the key fact.  The facts show that less than 0.02% of healthy people under 60 die.  Those that do die almost always some other causative factor for the death.  Heart problems, diabetes, obesity,    breathing problems, etc. are the primary causes for the deaths.
If you want to wear a mask- wear one.

If you are sick or one of the vulnerable, especially the elderly and infirm, wear masks and don’t go out unless necessary.  Limit contact with other people.
If you want to live your in constant fear, stay and never go out.  Keep in mind, masks are not a guarantee.  Your eyes are exposed and your hands can pick up the virus(s) and vector them into your body.

Every year millions die every year from many causes.  In 2017 and 2018, an average of 107,000 died from influenza/pneumonia.  I found no stats for 2019 and found only about 8,000 reported for first six months of 2020.  In 2020, the Feds told coroners to list COVID-19 for the cause of death if it may have been involved or in any doubt.  Hospitals will report as COVID-19 because they get higher reimbursements from the Feds under the COVID-19 legislation.

Oh FFS, not another one.

In my mind I just don't like that people care about "every life matters" now. But we as a country and world didn't care about those other deaths. At least not enough to talk about it, cover it on the news constantly. COVID everyone cares about every life, but if you die from the flu..........

I am not saying we don't take it seriously, or we don't wear masks. I am just saying I can't stand that people beat their chest how much of a humanitarian they are because they take COVID seriously. Well were you worried about all the people in the hospital fighting for their life due to the flu/pneumonia in regular years? I know the answer. It is no. Why? Because the media didn't tell you to care.

it goes on and on and on.  Beautiful way to secure the public’s cooperation during a deadly pandemic.  It’s unfortunate they don’t see how much damage this does to the public trust which in turns hurts the good people trying to fight this fight
Pathetic that you found a way to blame an entire political group and doctors. The same doctors that are at staffing capacity in the hospitals in Omaha, and surrounding areas due to loose restrictions and grown adults throwing tantrums about wearing masks. Especially after we saw one of the Huskers games cancelled because of loose restrictions in Wisconsin. Also, step into a teachers world as family members of students get covid and kids have to go remote and teach both.

Oh and look at this, on top of Trump asking his supporters to go out and vote with 613 hospitalization reported that same weekend. As an independent, it's pitiful to watch conservatives complain about liberals being snowflakes while adults throw tantrums about lockdowns and masks. All the while people are being hospitalized, and even if they don't lose their lives, had to fight for them on ventilators and other means in the system. Cases ARE spiking with masks, etc, now try to imagine what it would be without measures actually in place.

LOL, and to top it off the U.S. has more Corona cases than 2 third world countries

https://www.businessinsider.com/how-us-coronavirus-outbreak-compares-to-other-countries-charts-2020-10  with far worse medical systems and funding.

Probably because of this https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6937a6.htm and the fact that covid is far worse with preexisting conditions and considering America has a population of around 40% with preexisting conditions, there is a lot to worry about.

Why does RedSavage read all the P&R threads, +1 all the trumpists, but never reply in P&R?

Weird.

I am so tired of dumbf#&%s like this. My friend who got it in March is still on medication that makes him vomit, because his symptoms are worse than vomiting. So f#&% anyone who says the cases are irrelevant. If last December, 99% of us were told there would be a new 3rd leading cause of death that no one had ever heard of before, they would have all said this is a really bad thing.

And about half of the s#!t written here is lies.

And COVID deaths are in addition to those deaths. Plus the number of cases are in addition to all the other current illnesses hospitals routinely take care of, which leads to our healthcare systems being extremely strained.

Yeah, I was just making fun of the guy.

We disagree on plenty, but we do not disagree on the significance of COVID, and the actions required by the citizens of this country. I have been just has disappointed as you with the public's lack of responsibility during this pandemic.

"The citizens of this country" are not screwing this up. People who listen to trump are screwing this up. It's important to be clear about what's happening.

Are they not citizens of this country? It should go without saying, to the untriggered, that I wasn't referring to everyone.... And it clearly isn't 'only' Trump's supporters. I know a lot of them that are taking it very seriously, and know plenty of liberals that go about their lives pretty close to normal.
