Tangent Thread - P&R Edition

Are they not citizens of this country? It should go without saying, to the untriggered, that I wasn't referring to everyone.... And it clearly isn't 'only' Trump's supporters. I know a lot of them that are taking it very seriously, and know plenty of liberals that go about their lives pretty close to normal.

Your continued attempts to both-sides everything that trump has fucked up are truly impressive.

I've pointed out my disappointment with Trump, and his (local to me) supporters' response to the pandemic. Your continued attempts to frame me as a Trump supporter are tired, and pathetic. Trump has clearly played a significant role in the downplaying of the virus in this country, but he and his supporters are FAR from being solely responsible, no matter how much your little left leaning heart wants to believe it. I'm sure you've noticed that the virus has picked up momentum across the world, I guess that's also the fault of Billy Bob, from rural Indiana?

If not a supporter, an apologist. It's a fitting shoe.

This post was a direct response to a post where I was critical of Trump.

Was it?

Here's the lip service to being critical of trump:

Trump has clearly played a significant role in the downplaying of the virus in this country

You know what they say. Everything before the "but" is a lie.

And here comes the both-sides mitigation for whatever criticism for trump you may have falteringly made:

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The truth often lies somewhere in the middle....

But not always. And in the US's COVID response, one person called the shots, but shoulders an equal portion of blame in your posts.

Apologists find reasons to excuse the things they want to excuse.

I think knapplc's point seems bombastic on the surface, but it's really not.

Would tons of people have ignored directed health measures, gone to massive beach parties, or been caught at a huge gameday party in Lincoln if it hadn't been for Trump? Yes, probably. We can't ignore stupid people who do stupid things just because they want to. But, the overall dissension and allowance for these types of things has largely been buoyed on a national scale because of Trump and his administration. They are the single greatest cause for why we're at where we're at today.

I'm not trying to completely disregard nuance, but if hail damages your siding whilst a tornado tears off your roof and slams a tree into your living room, does the hail really matter all that much at that point?

Were these people listening to Trump?

Flat out saying "citizens aren't screwing this up, only Trumpers are!" is a downright lie.

And pointing out how stupid that statement is doesn't mean I'm defending Trump so save your breath, we've all heard that classic.
