Tangent Thread - P&R Edition

A little less misrepresentation of peoples' arguments (intentional or otherwise) would go a long way towards cultivating more honest discussion in this thread. Turning someone's argument into a caricature of itself is unnecessary.

Basic legwork is no stranger to a person with a journalist's training. Look at all the evidence. It's right there.

Uh... We do realize that phones, smart watches, fitness trackers, and apps collect health data.... Right???

My 5 year old phone can take my heart rate, BP, O2 level, general stress, and fitness level. It can also tell me when, how far, and how fast I've run/jogged/biked. I can also have it track my weight, glucose, and diet. All that is fed into some 3rd party's database for god knows what.

Phone data collection is nowhere NEAR the same thing as healthcare collection data and the different laws on the books bear this out.   The analogy made zero sense and had no purpose in the discussion.
That's still not at all the point he was making; so, at best, this is a caricature of the point he was trying to make. At worst, it's willful obtuseness. Neither is a good look.

And it still doesn't excuse you trying to suggest his argument was "phone = COVID vaccine," which it wasn't, and was what kickstarted the problem in the first place.

You do realize that is voluntary and NOT necessary in order to be a consumer and travel amongst the US.  Your 5 yr old does have to share any of that data nor have it collected unless he wants to.  This is a totally different discussion, which I assume you know.

it wasn’t any of the things you said, he wasn’t trying to further the discussion and he was trying to make a caricature of the actual point.

His argument equated phone collection data (voluntary outside of ping data and NOT required to to be shown before entering a store or plane) to be equal to private healthcare collection data which is complete and utter nonsense.

Archy knows very well what he's doing.

Also, it's insane to expect a calm and civil response when nothing seems to have changed 19 years after Rodney King. That doesn't make it right but even JFK knew what's what.

19 years later...

Go burn down the police station. Take it out on local government buildings. Leave Little Joe the Plumber out of it. It's such a bulls#!t excuse for rioting and looting.

Damn, the American justice system holds up in this situation and people are triggered?   I would have figured, considering the overwhelming video evidence showing the killing of a fellow human being, that justice being served was something we could all feel relief about and agree up.  C'mon this is good for the future of our country.

The justice system absolutely did what it was supposed to do. That's fantastic. Maybe we should of let that happen before burning down cities.
