To my recollection, America has always been the land of opportunity... not the land of equal opportunity. I think that's an important distinction. Maybe it was just a mistype.

Google seems to return results for people saying both, but I've rarely heard the term 'equal' shoved in there. If it had been, it'd be a lot like football teams who 'strive for perfection.' It's an impossible task, but you can still aim for it.


"Equal" is not necessary in the phrase. "The land of opportunity" has no gender, no race, no class, no caveats. It's just opportunity, for everyone. Period.

"The land of opportunity" stems from the basic foundation of this country:  “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Jefferson used the common language of the day, which presumed a "creator," and that the audience would generally be men. But clearly the intent was that ALL PEOPLE were welcome to the great melting pot, not just men, not just land-owners, not specifically anyone. All people. Of all nations, races, religions (or no religion), all genders. Whatever.

It was further expounded upon on the statue that embodies our liberty:  "Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shores."

Those wretched, the "refuse" of other countries, was not limited to any race, nation, color, religion, or sex. Didn't matter. Wretched or great, "refuse/garbage" or not, in this land of opportunity for all, everyone has value.

That is the opposite of an impossible task. It's the bedrock of what makes this nation so amazing.

We are powerful in our diversity.

 
Do you work in an environment where other people make different amounts of money than yourself? Does that stop you from doing your job? 

Ryan Day makes $5M a year as the head coach of Ohio State. Yet his admin that makes $30k still shows up to work every day. This is how the world works. 
 True- however it seems a lot of the kids who attend college these days- are into being woke socialist types. If they think that is the way the country should be run- why not set an example of doing it yourself? 

 ESPECIALLY if you are one of the high paid guys.

There's always been marxists, racists, religious zealots, fascists, liberals, conservatives, and everything in-between on college campuses. With the exception of religious institutions and explicitly bias campuses I don't understand why everyone freaks out about this. The radical ideas seldom attract any following. The cross bearing Bible guy telling us we were all going  to hell at UNL never found any apostles when I was there.

You take that back. Sister Pat preaching at Broyhill Fountain was the sh#t. That is how I learned us frat boys were all evil little lechers.

 
Rutgers was 3-6 last year. 31 teams last year were worse, so maybe not the worst. Also I didn't realize the spring game was was a collegiate game. Let's see what he can do when he's not practicing. Alright? Regardless of how old he is, he's still a kid who's in college and you're hating on him.

Maybe we should hire you as a QB coach since you know so much. Well actually you'd already be one if you were THAT great.
 Saying someone doesn't play the game of football particularly well and why isn't hate. You've been listening to too many really weak political people and or lived a very very sheltered life. Youre the one that brought up his age- you were off by right at 3 years. 

Yes, lets measure how great we play by how we do against what is traditionally one of the worst college teams. But then I guess were supposed to judge it against what Shiano will have in the future vs what he had last year and with lots of the previous years players. Makes complete sense  :D  Now I guess Im "hating" Rutgers, pointing out they had the 11th best defense last year. Sorry Greg Shiano- didn't mean to offend you, please dont cry, I'm sure you have MANY redeeming qualities and you love kittens. 

And BTW don't ever criticize a President or Business Owner- because you've never been the President or owned a business- be consistent.. I did coach QBs for more than a decade- many college QB camps etc So Im no guru ( I dont listen to opera), but I know more than you.

So now both BYU and Miami BOTH have team deals in place for substantial money for EVERY player on the team. Seems like a real difference maker those of us early adopters were saying was going to happen. 
Are you Kreskin? You know EVERYTHING. You told us this was going to happen AND you were an early adopter too. Probably comes from all those years of coaching quarterbacks and all those football camps and all that data you have collected being a season ticket holder since the 70’s. You are impressive.
