For this kid to not know a lot, it doesn't sound like Cotton is really trying to sell the program to this kid. Maybe its a little early, but we need to be early to land great talent. The Husker staff came through with an offer for Helm last week.
"I was actually in Michigan on a visit and I got a message on facebook asking me to call them," Helm recounted. "I finally got ahold of Coach (Barney) Cotton and he let me know that I had the offer.
"He said that they'd use me more as a hybrid [tight end]. He liked how I can catch the ball and he said that he thought with their weight room and stuff that they could make me a pretty decent blocker as well."
Helm was asked what he knows about Nebraska at this point, and he replied:
"Not a whole lot. I know that their football tradition is excellent, it's a great college town, and then I've heard that their facilities are pretty phenomenal. But besides that, I don't know a whole lot."
Can we at least wait until he gets an in home visit or visits here before we starting criticizing Barney's recruiting approach?Recruiting update:

It doesn't sound like Cotton is really trying to sell the program? You're kidding me, right? I think you're drawing some big conclusions from a couple of lines in an article.Recruiting update:

Read the bold please. The kid says he doesn't know much about the program, except for what he stated. If we are going to send an offer, shouldn't the kid know more about the school and what we can offer? Like I said, he probably doesn't know much yet, because its March, FAR away from signing day, and the time you want to schedule visits. Can we at least wait until he gets an in home visit or visits here before we starting criticizing Barney's recruiting approach?

I never said Cotton was a bad recruiter, nor am I criticizing his recruiting. I didn't say that he wasn't selling, just that it seems like he isn't.
Did Stanford request game tape to start the evaluation process? Has Daniel tried reaching out to their coaches?Talked to a someone very familiar with Daniel Helm this weekend. He said his recruitment is wide open but he is pretty much gone if Stanford offers. 4.0 GPA in high school. Just sharing some info. The source is solid.
