teachercd

I guess I should also add I don't know what the answer is here for the reports. I believe, even if it's a bit irrational, that teach is trying to prove some misguided point with all of the reports and directly assault my comment about banning members for abusing the report function. I don't have evidence to support that claim other than he's never done this before except in the thread I mentioned it in.

I'd be inclined to close the reports for the simplest of reason that none of them are direct violations of board rules and there doesn't seem to be any action to take.

Referencing @Landlord's three reports about @teachercd.

The Duval S&C thread has gotten a little out of control, but kudos to @Huskerzoo for trying to reign it in. The timeline of events (so far as I can see) are as such:

- Moiraine made a tongue-in-cheek/sarcastic comment recently about watching young dudes lift and how she liked it (I think most people realized it was a joke).

- @grandpasknee took it upon himself to start a tongue-in-check (yet somewhat inappropriate) thread in the VB forum about getting footage of the VB team. He was making it seem like he wanted to see it purely for sexual reasons or eye candy.

- I locked the thread, left a message in there about it being inappropriate, and then put it in the Junkyard. grandpasknee PM'd me about it apologizing and we were all good.

- Someone posted a video of VB players working out in the Duval thread, and @huKSer made a joke about the last five seconds should be in slow motion (wasn't as clear if it was a joke or not, but seemed like less of a joke sort of?)

- @Moiraine got mad about it (even though, from what I can see, her first remark started this whole thing in the first place even if she doesn't want to admit it)

- Now, @teachercd is doing what he does best and being snarky/trolling.

At the very least, I'm going to move this side conversation of stuff out of the thread and into the Woodshed. However, there are a lot of parts here.

I don't think what teach is doing is right, but he does this kind of stuff all the time and has been warned about it a lot. Another warning for him in general should probably be a permaban. But, is he at fault enough here to receive that kind of punishment? Seems like the thread has calmed down a bit now, too. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for cleaning up that thread Enhance. I was hoping that a comment might help things. I should've known better.

I think teach has always toed the line of a permaban. That's kind of his thing is, knowing exactly where the line is. He might need a break for awhile as a reminder that he needs to get his stuff in order.

I'm not sure this is the breaking point, but I'm not against it if it is.

This stuff is rich.

Moiraine trying to play it off as a joke when she does this regularly.  Shoe’s on the other foot an now it’s an issue.

Landlord whining about trolling when about half of what he does is inject himself into a conversation to nit-pick at something and tell someone else how wrong they are.  Not trying to contribute to the conversation, just try to show how much smarter he (thinks he) is than anyone else.

I’m not going to say that teach doesn’t stir the pot here and there.  But he’s far from the only one.  Others just don’t like him because he has opinions they disagree with so they’re always whining about him.

I am with you, @Mavric. @Moiraine makes suggestive remarks about the football players all the time. Her trying to laugh off the last occasion because she got called out for it seems disingenuous. She also needs to calm down with the double standard she created.

As for her and @teachercd, I say both situations are off-season nonsense that will blow over.

I think that all makes sense. Now that stuff has been moved, I think this will mostly just blow over. I'm going to close the tickets and send a quick response to Landlord.

A little record keeping update.

I sent teachercd a verbal warning via PM about this post after someone reported it. It was initially in a P&R thread about the presidential election. I basically told him that some types of jokes are best reserved for the Shed and others probably don't have a place here on the board, and that using transgenders as a punchline is somewhere between those two standards.

The reason for the verbal warning was because he also had this gem of a status update on March 19 (that I hid):

What are you gonna do with your stimulus cash???

-Two chicks at the same time!

Essentially, two jokes that I think had better homes than where he put them. I told him we need to see more discretion from him moving forward.

His response:

I was making fun of people that are trying really hard to not believe Reade and then added in the funny bit about Putin dressing up like a woman to fool her husband 25 years ago as a Russian plot.

Anyway, no biggie!  Thanks for letting me know.

I still think it was the right call to move it just in case, but wanted to share his response regardless.

@knapplc and @teachercd got into it this weekend over the phrase "kung flu," hence the four reports from knapplc about it. knapplc saying it's racist and doesn't belong on the board, teach thinking "it's funny."

I agree that "kung flu" is an inappropriate means of referring to COVID. It carries some negative racial tones. But, I didn't necessarily think it required any further action/punishment outside of moving the posts to the Woodshed. Open to any other feedback, though.

I guess I'm honestly not sure why that is considered racist.  I don't know that it's demeaning to Chinese people.  Unless you're going to try to make the connection that it's the entire race's fault that the virus got let loose, but I don't see anyone making that argument.

As far as I can tell the main reason it's considered racist is that Trump said it and some people are convinced that everything Trump says is racist so this is racist.

I don't have an issue with moving the posts but this seems pretty over-the-top to me.

I think it primarily comes from a place of ill-intent. Some people do think it's racist and I lean that way myself. I see their argument, but of course, knapplc treats it like it's the worst thing someone can say.

I also think that if I were a person of Asian descent, I wouldn't be particularly thrilled with people referring to COVID as "kung flu" so that's also part of it.

Be warned...

Passenger seat mod @knapplc just sent me this PM. The message carries an air of "you need to ban teach" even though he's not explicitly saying that.

I'll appreciate a follow-up to my reports about teach's "Kung Flu" posts, and subsequent doubling-down.

As you stated in the Shed, the Mods appreciate reports. But that appreciation doesn't evolve to a follow-up. Most times they're just ignored.

"Kung Flu" isn't comedy. It's straight out of trump's mouth, straight-up racism, with real-world consequences for Asian-Americans.

Pretending it's comedy isn't OK. This needs to be addressed.
