One day a man came home to collect something he had forgotten and found that his house had been completely destroyed. What had happened?

He had moved out of his home because it was condemned, but he realized that he forgot something in the house but when he went back, it was completely destroyed.

How about the guy lived way up north in an igloo. He lit his lantern in the morning so he could see, planning to take it with him because it's dark a long time then light a long time. He forgot his lantern, and by the time he returned to get it, it had melted his igloo...a wild guess

He came home to get his unpaid water bill and found he had left the upstairs faucet on with the drain plug in the tub. Complete and unrefutable deluge :)
