The 2024 Election —What did we learn?

However, no one, JFK, Nixon included, ever had felony and rapist labels tied around their neck like Trump.  These were scarlet letters in full view.  Other candidates have had their campaigns derailed by the smallest of indiscretions.   Trump - not so much.  That is why I think MAGA is a personality cult.  The GOP of the 1990s: Character matters.  The GOP of today:  Character be dammed.
I agree with you, but just a bit ago, the CNN legal analyst who worked with Alvin Bragg just said those NY cases should never have been brought and likely will be dismissed on appeal.

I went to bed at like 8!

I did see some teachers hugging and consoling each other.

I have seen one student crying but I don't know why.
I just was walking the halls.  One of the black kids on my track team was high fiving someone else about Trump winning.  Our school is 50/50 white/minority.  Our Minority boys have a serious lean to Trump.  I have seen it since 2016.  I can speculate, but not sure why.  BTW we are a Private/Christian school.  I would guess our faculty is about close to 50/50 Dem/Repub?  Somewhere in that range?  We have been warned by our superintendent in the summer and again today.  Not politics in the classroom.

Stocks appear set to open higher today. We'll see what the future brings.

Donald Trump election win turbocharges stocks, cryptocurrency and Trump Media

Dow futures soared nearly 1,400 points, or 3.2%, lifting the blue-chip market into record terrain before the start of trade on Wednesday. S&P 500 futures were up more than 2%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite also looked set to open strong.

Although markets have pushed to new highs this year, Wall Street analysts warn that some of Trump's key policy proposals could rekindle U.S. inflation, dampen economic growth and drive up the nation's debts. Specifically, Trump has proposed imposing tariffs of up to 20% on foreign goods and up to 60% on Chinese imports.

Of course the stock market jumped up.  The stock exchange is an expression of corporate financial power, and a corporate minion of theirs just got elected President.

One question we will be asking and learning in the next four years is whether or not Clarence Thomas and Alito will retire allowing for younger SCOTUS nominees while a republican is in charge.

I learned that news orgs are telling me Trump won young first time voters 😲

Never would have thought that

I also learned my prediction for who would win was way wrong.   And @Dr. Strangelove was way right

Yes, I've been think of this.  I am 100% positive that this will happen.  Trump, with the previous 3 nominees plus 2 more (at least) will have an affect on the courts that might last 2 generations.   While they don't need to worry about being impeached any longer, they will probably get out while the getting out is good.  I'm sure they will be rewarded financially to do so.

Agreed.   I have to commend @Dr. Strangelove for being steadfast in his prediction and keen insight.  I was wrong in my forecast and did not weighed the economy enough and gave too much weight to character.

John Kennedy and St Paul both said:  "Be patient in tribulation."

We can't stand for democracy only when our side wins.   It is a hard work to keep it.

Trump massively improved his margins with nearly all demographic groups. This is mostly because of inflation, so it'll be interesting to see how many of these groups stick with the GOP in future elections, indicating true gains within those demographic groups, and which groups revert back towards Democrats, indicating that Trumps improvement was circumstantial.

I confess to knowing a lot because of cheating... I had to the opportunity to work on research with an elections professor at UNL back in the day and learned a lot about the ins and outs of elections. I declined to go to graduate school because I was offered a real job (I also confess to liking money), and honestly unless you're truly passionate, it's impossible not to become cynical about politics, if you can't tell by my often confrontational and cynical style.

So I'm just slightly more informed about elections than the average poster (but not by much).

Just a few days ago I thought the UCLA game was the saddest loss I'd seen.

For starters, I'd like to welcome the folks who rarely visit P&R but couldn't wait to pop in today to see the distraught libtards.

That would be me. I will never, ever be able to understand how people could watch the last 8 years of Donald Trump and say "more of that, please!"

btw, if seeing me sad makes you happy, you automatically qualify for one of the 300,000 governmental appointments to be made by the new Trump administration.

Just an aside, with apologies:  How do you guys get that user name button thingy in a post?  I see it used by Mavric in the Contest Crib every week, and when I try it I get nothing but the text.
