The Beatles

Anyone seen the Movie "Across the Universe" yet?
The music: :thumbs

Everything else: :hmmph

I bought the sound track and listen to it a lot . . . Blackbird, Blue Jay Way, Helter Skelter, and Let It Be were done brilliantly in that movie. Unfortunately, the sound track didn't include the instrumental A Day in the Life, which was my favorite song from the movie.

Also, the "LOVE" version of Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite is worth the price of the entire album. I want to go to Vegas to see that show so badly . . .

...The second is "Love". This album is unique. It was actually the soundtract to the Cirque de Sole (sic) production, and involved sampling of various songs. One unique track has the Sun King cut played backwards - very haunting. The sampling - done by Beatles producer George Martin and his son - really is outstanding. You literally hears the songs in a whole new light.
Kinda like this?

Hey AR..

Any idea how they made the background "Seagull noise" on the song "Tomorrow Never Knows"?

I sometimes have played that song over and over for hours..(And without drugs)..

Ah - good question, because no one knows. When they made the song, they used a lot of sounds in the EMI tape library, and then used a lot of feedback and reverse tape loops, etc. After they finished, they wondered how the hell they could ever reproduce it live - which they couldn't, of course. It was a sort of "jam" session in which they kept adding sounds and loops.

Very cool, though...

Thanks..Glad I wasn't the only one wondering..I seem to recall a (sorta) similar sound much later on a Smashing Pumpkins song...1979 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2snP7rGP6g

Here's the link to the yt vid I postedd before and a longer sample I found today..

Gnik Nus or is it Sun King (backwards)....The Beatles

When I get back to campus, where my copy of The Beatles Anthology is, I'll consult it about the seagull noises. I'm pretty sure Paul says something about it in there.

Song Meanings

Accd to this post,

the seagull noise is actually paul laughing played backwards. and some of the guitar from taxman is played backwards, sped up here also. great song, but it has been contributed to starting todays dance type music.

papersun87.....I think you're haunting me! Ever since you posted this, I have heard Beatles songs everywhere. Today on my lunch break I did a little shopping, and heard "64" and "Love Me Do"...... (But it's a good thing!)
