The Bo Pelini Arguments

What if we tried to contain the Bo bickering into one thread? zoogies suggested a Bo forum, and that's something I'd like to see explored further, too. Just like a wildfire - you don't waste time trying to stop it, you just keep it from spreading until it dies on its own.

People may hate having their conversations thrown into a big thread, and that is contrary to Eric's stated wishes, but it's an alternative to closing threads or deleting posts and going through the three-strike process.

I think a thread or forum is worth a try.

I also think AR is on target with trying to crack down on thread derailment. I think that's where most people - including myself - get frustrated. You can't post about much of anything without someone popping in with some snide comment. Then it blows up from there. If there are threads complaining about something that is fine. People don't have to go into them if they don't want to. But when 75% of the treads end up that way, it gets really old really quickly.

For now, let's try the tread derailment. We don't need to clean up threads, just stop the outbreaks for a while. The anti-Bo crowd will get the message, particularly if we post in the thread that the member is being punished for derailing the thread and (most important) if people want to bash on Bo that's fine - just create your own thread to do it and don't hijack existing threads. Post that in the thread when we warn or suspend, and the message will get through, I'm guessing. If it doesn't, then we can say to the board that we tried, but we have no alternative now but to create a "bash Bo" sub-forum or single thread.

The sh#t of it is, that's going to require us to start reading Husker Football again. I'm not kidding when I say I've avoided that forum for most part since the Spring Game.

Kinda feel like holding my nose when I go back in there.

Also - as time permits I'll start some threads based on the topics above, but I may not have time to do justice to all of those ideas, so if anyone wants to start their own thread about any of those - or any other idea - please feel free.

I will be hugely busy in June (my quarter/year end) and I may not have the time I'd like to try to reset the forum.

Immediately after posting that warning at the top of Husker Football, BrayWyatt (finlay22) PMs me asking if he's perma-banned the next time someone reports him.

I assured him that he's not (necessarily) going to be banned for the next report, and that we take everything on a case-by-case basis. I said I don't want him walking around here with a cloud over his head like he's going to be banned for the next report we get on him.

At least he's taking this seriously. Hopefully everyone does.
