The Democrat Utopia

I mean, this literally happens all the time with relationships and divorces.  People telling others who they can and can't hangout with.

Parents also do it to their kids.

What did they say?
A common thing during the attempted Muslim ban was they questioned why I’d support any religion that hated America and wanted to kill all white people in terrorist attacks.

The Hispanic population is also pretty high around my hometown area.  They were excited about the idea of getting the moochers out of town and it was about time someone was gonna make “talk English”.

There were always hints these people were backwards, they are old white rural folks.  But, a switch flipped for them that apparently made them feel like people who didn’t think all non-Christian foreign people were bad were the minority.  Hell, maybe we are…

Yeah, I've maintained longstanding friendships with people who voted for Trump. We already know where each other is coming from, and generally try to avoid the subject. I've tried to understand how we got on such opposite sides, and weirdly enough we overlap at a place where we don't like the current power structure, and don't trust the horses#!t the opposing candidate is peddling. I can live with that.

But when the move to Trumpism comes with a sense of freedom to embrace a level of cruelty, mockery and prejudice, layered in a stunning amount of disinformation, I'm more than willing to move away from that person.

It's ludicrous that Maher labels this phenomenon of the left.

This is exactly how I feel.

And how many times has one of your fellow progressives involved themselves in your business and told you that you're not allowed to maintain those relationships anymore?

Other than my daughter?

JK.

Seriously, I've seen this happen mostly in social media forums, including Facebook, where posters I only know digitally declare their intention to unfriend anyone who voted for Trump, heavily implying that this is a line in the sand others need to be drawing, too. That's not how I roll, but if you read the Comments section from the about-to-be-unfriended, you understand why this is probably a mental health decision as much as an ethical decision.

There were a couple old conservative friends of mine who unfriended me the day after Obama was reelected in 2012. Haven't talked to them since.

Noah is right and I'm glad people are willing to call out the populist grift the Bernie Sanders wing of the party represents.

Bernie is a mediocre politician who's currently twisting his left-leaning populism to align himself more with Trump voters... for no real reason

The guy is like 200 years old, what's Bernie's grand plan here?

The sooner Democrats launch Bernie Sanders and the other elements of the party more concerned with faux-activism into the Sun, the better we all will be.

Why does the H1B visa program extend almost 80% of the visas to India?  One would assume the best and brightest come from many many other countries across the world🤷‍♂️

Maybe that’s where most of the applicants come from?

Not trying to be a smart a$$. But:

a) why does it matter where they come from?

b) obviously, there might be more involved than the stat shows.

As for “a”. I would be most concerned if there were some reason why certain counties are excluded.

The contradiction of Bernie wouldn't govern well because he doesn't change his beliefs with Bernie is bad because he's changing to align with Trump is some funny stuff.

But I guess Dems will be better off sticking with the status quo that has lost to Trump 2 out of 3 times. Nevermind that Bernie's policies align with New Deal politics that were the most successful the Dems have ever been.

Are you a fan of Bernie as an Independent or as a Democrat?  Or do you just like him in general?  I kind of just like him.

From a pure statistical standpoint, 80% of the “best and brightest” wouldn't come from a single nation.  This kinda tells me some shady deals are going down between power brokers in India and the US.

See the end of my previous answer

Not every country promotes the same types of skills or education. All things being equal, the majority would probably be from China, but our relationship with them is more contentious, so it’s not as high. At least that is why I assume it’s not as high. And maybe Chinese are less interested in coming here than Indians.

It’s hard for me to think of another country where it makes more sense to have a high % than India. They have a high population. They still don’t have a great economy and have a lot of poor people so they’d have more people clamoring to come here. They have a lot of people pursuing STEM related skills. We have a decent relationship with them; they don’t have a bunch of religious followers who want to destroy us and things aren’t contentious like they are with China and Russia. Maybe 80% doesn’t make sense (?) but India being the majority does make sense. There are lots of countries where I’m sure they promote STEM but the economies are good enough that people don’t want to leave. India has basically the perfect conditions to have a s#!tton of people wanting to come here and US companies wanting to hire them.
