The Democrat Utopia

Not sure what happened to your tweet, but just wanted to say that Trump made a comment on Friday, his third comment since the election, that I know about, that makes you question what he is talking about. “It was so sad because they said can you imagine I wont be president and thats too bad, then what happened is they rigged the election and I became president and now I will be president for the world cup and the olympics”

He also said the day before his inauguartion about how Elon really knows those voting tabulation machines in PA and because of that he won in a landslide.

So good for them if they somehow got away with it.

Hold on here....a tweet was deleted???

One lawmaker added to CNN they had “never seen people so mad.”

House Democrats, like Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, have taken to social media to share their disgust with Schumer, as well as senators Kirsten Gillibrand and John Fetterman—the other two Dems who want to bring the budget to vote.

Gillibrand was heard by multiple reporters“screaming” and “speaking quite loudly” at a Senate Democrats lunch on Thursday, her voice carrying through “thick wood doors.”

“She seems to be making the case against allowing the government to shut down,” Punchbowl News reporter Andrew Desiderio wrote on X.

Chuck Schumer is an impotent coward. We have no functional opposition party in this country to counter the flaming pile of garbage that is our government right now. Buncha pussies want to just roll over and continue business as usual.

"Hey, you know how you have no power right now and can't do anything about anything? Well you've finally got an opportunity to do something about something!"

"Nah."

I'm one of the most firmly liberal people who posts here and I can't defend this crap. Frankly to me they're just being a caricature of of the feckless nerds scared of their own shadow. Scared to take their own position in an argument, as someone put it. Crowing about the unprecedented threat Trumpism represents then meekly going along with it in the same breath.

Good luck to anybody looking to a group led by these losers to offer any meaningful opposition. New leadership needed yesterday.

I think one thing we all need to remember is that like most people, they don't really care all that much about other people.  They might talk a good game but that is really it.

They care about themselves. Both parties just express it differently.

I find Democrats tend to be less actively harmful to people like me and those i care about. But their leadership sucks and they can't message at all. Biden actually did some really good stuff and they just failed to market it at all. They have no idea what their supposed to be besides anti-Trump and now they can't even deliver that.

This is so real it hurts...

I get what you are saying but you have to remember that for most people, their "job" is just that, a job.

It is 8-5 and it is the path of least resistance.

I agree that the Ds need new leadership and suck at messaging. And while we’re at it, they also need to eject some of the fringe left bs. They could become a viable center left option for everyone except the brain dead MAGA right. But I also find myself agreeing with Schumer to not let the govt shutdown at this point because that would give Trump even more power and discretion to continue decimating things. And that messaging deficiency….I’m about 90% certain the Rs would successfully blame any government shutdown on the uncooperative Ds. The funding bill they passed sucks and it lets Trump and Musk continue to plunder and pillage but I think it would likely be even worse if a shutdown were to occur. JMO

Specifically how so?
Specifically, because it increases defense spending by $6B and decreases non-defense by $13B and there are no instructions on how/what to spend the money. Any serious attempt to fix spending has to include the military, and I’m not talking about veteran benefits which Trump is more than happy to eliminate.

Congress no longer has the power of the purse beyond saying here’s some money do what you will with it donold and elon. This is not how our government is supposed to function. You won’t like it and you’ll neglect to agree but Trump at this point is effectively an autocrat dictator. The other 2 branches of government are currently impotent….and the 4th branch is doing a piss poor job because they are for profit entities that want to maintain access.

And TBF, congress (Dems) had no chance to win in this scenario. Shutdown the government and they get blamed. Give Trump an open checkbook and be labeled complicit. If you were at all honest with yourself you’d realize how f#&%ed up things are. To help with that realization, imagine Kamala or Joe or any Dem as President in the same situation we find ourselves in. Would you like them willy nilly cutting and funding whatever the hell they wanted to?

I agree about defense spending cuts along with others in order to balance budget.

The $13 billion decrease in nondefense spending – which Republicans are touting as $13 billion in savings – would stem from the removal of projects or one-time initiatives funded by lawmakers, known as earmarks, in fiscal year 2024, according to a House Appropriations Committee spokesperson. The measure would not affect the money directed to these projects in the last fiscal year, but it would not repeat the funding for the same projects. No earmarks are included in the continuing resolution, the spokesperson said.

The legislation would also fully fund veterans’ health care services and benefits, while enhancing investments in defense, the committee touted in a press release. It noted that the bill includes the largest pay raise for junior enlisted troops in more than 40 years – the National Defense Authorization Act, which former President Joe Biden signed in December, authorized a 14.5% increase in pay in 2025.

The stopgap measure would also support federal wildland firefighters, including raising their pay and providing premium pay for those responding to fires, according to a GOP summary of the bill. And it would increase funding for air traffic control systems by $753 million above the prior year’s level.

Funding for nutrition assistance to mothers, infants and children in the WIC program would jump by more than $500 million to a total of $7.6 billion, a request made by the Trump administration, the committee highlighted. The bill would also increase funding for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, which supports low-income senior citizens, and for the Food Safety and Inspection Service to review meat and poultry processing plants.

It’s the same BS that happens when Dems are in charge of budget too and Repubs don’t like what’s in it.  Shutdown the government and get blamed or give Barack/Obama an open checkbook and be labeled complicit

Listen, something has to give with the US budget.   From 1980-2019 the budget grew on average about 2.5-3% a year.   Since 2019, the budget has increased 10% a year on average.  That is not a sustainable pace and a good amount of that increase was supposed to be temporary emergency relief spending, but the spending levels NEVER got back down to pre COVID level yearly spending increases.   We SHOULD have an annual budget of roughly $5.2-$5.5 trillion if you just took the historical annual increases and carried them from 2019-2025.  Instead, we are at about $7 trillion.   WHY???  Why can’t things be stripped back down to normal levels since we aren’t in an emergency with Covid anymore.    Money is like crack to politicians.    Once they get it, for whatever temporary reason, they don’t want to give it back when the temporary reason is over.  It’s bulls#!t.
