The Chernobyl miniseries and how the Soviet Union government worked reminds me a lot of the Trump administration. Ignoring what they didn’t like to hear from scientists because either they didn’t want to hear it, they didn’t want the public to hear it, or they didn’t want people outside the Soviet Union to hear it.

I’ve read about multiple instances where the Trump admin is ignoring the research on the health effects of their policies or changing how the models are calculated so their policies don’t look as damaging. People are going to die because of their policies and just to save a few bucks for mega corporations. The country gets nothing out of this, other than maybe cancer or lung disease, or much worse. We can’t afford to have them there for another 4 years, and I hope to God de-regulation at all costs will stop being the mantra of the Republican party.

Here's how people should be able to see through this crap.

If climate science is wrong about the effect of humans, they should be able to find people to still fill this position and then tell us why scientists are wrong.  Instead, it's simply don't fill the position and they think it's all going to go away.  

 
How far will Republicans go to avoid dealing with climate change?

Oregon Republicans have literally fled their state to Idaho for protection from paramilitary groups after the Oregon governor used a little-used law to order the state patrol to escort them back to the capital for a special session to vote on a climate change bill.

This one is wild.

I would think the feds need to be brought in if they're seeking protection from paramilitary groups or mercenaries or whatever you want to call them.

Or, once they flee the state they also flee their positions as state senators and they get replaced with a new vote. They shouldn't be allowed to come back from this.

It works both ways --- several years ago Texas Dem legislators came to Okla to escape a vote - can't remember what the subject was.  

But - regardless of party, they were elected to do their constitutional duty to represent the voters and sometimes that means being the minority vote.

I know it goes both ways, and it is "immature" like @BigRedBuster said.  They were elected by their district to REPRESENT the district.  If my rep ever ran from a vote (whether I disagreed or not) I would be sure to call his office and let him know of his/her cowardice.  

They should vote and own it.  If they truly feel it is bad policy (I have no doubt the Oregon Republicans feel this way) then let the public know the harm it will do and work to change the feelings of the populace you represent.  One can not honestly stand up for "democracy" one day, and run away from democratic duties the next.  It's a joke....

 
FWIW I believe Democrats have a supermajority in Oregon and thus something absurd like this is the only way for Republicans to block legislation they don't like.

Doesn't change that fact this is unacceptable. Maybe Oregon Republicans should re-calibrate their priorities if it earned them superminority status in the state instead of literally running away from their jobs.

My point. They feel that way? Fine.  But let the public know why, and if it is good reasons it will stand on merit. But to run away is cowardly and dereliction of duty....
