The "I Found A Spammer" Thread

New member alfiestorey joined and put this stuff in his About Me info:

Weird thing is, he says where he's from in his Location tab: MANYANA NSW 2539. That's not typical spammer modus operandi.

I'm inclined to think this is a spammer, but I don't know, and I'm not clicking the link while I'm at work.

 
Very odd. He put a lot of details into his profile. Certainly doesn't look like a bot. Claims he's a "brace maker". The website is legit, but it's to an Australian vanilla bean seller. (I am NOT making that up). Need to keep an eye on him, no dobut.

 
This guy made it pretty easy. Definitely a spammer.

Joined last night, no posts. I flagged him as a spammer and removed all this stuff from his profile.



Another guy has tried to join but is caught up in the endless "Validating" loop. @acewilliams is a writer covering Michigan football at Chat Sports. While I think they're a competitor, he may just be here to talk football. We've had a lot of posts lately that have discussed Michigan's chances in the Legends Division, and most of them are anti-Michigan/pro-Nebraska (go figure :D ) and he may be here to hold up the flag for his team.



Getting back to our discussion of member @alfiestorey, I think it's safe to say he's a spammer, and we should nuke him. Joined a week ago, he's from Australia, and not only has he not posted, he's never logged in again since the minute he joined and put all that stuff in his sig.

Looks like @SinnerLloyd is a spammer, too. He/she/it posted in an old topic a while back and it seemed weird but innocuous. Went back and checked it again and it was edited to include a spam link:

Interesting. This one, and one of the three above, have IPs that resolve to Canada. There must be an open relay server somewhere. Anyway, because of that, I'm hesitant to do a wildcard ban of the IP. Thanks, Lance.
