The "I Found A Spammer" Thread

Good job, Frank! I was mucho distracted today what with covering the presser and knocking heads with a couple of attorneys.

 
I just cleaned up BetUSB's profile. The whole account was an advertisement for their website, cleverly called "www.betusb.com."

Their avatar was a mini advertisement with a link to their site as well. I had posted it here, but it got removed when I took it off their profile.

These are the links in their sig and on their profile page (which I have removed):

Got the account banned. I also tried wild-carding the 180.x.x.x address space, as well as the @126.com and @163.com email addresses. Let's see if that helps a bit.

Not sure the ban filter will react to the wildcards the way we want, but worth a try.

That seems to have worked, by the way. I haven't seen a Chinese spammer for a while.

Do we need a ban, or wait and see if he tries again?

 
I don't think he's able to post again since I tagged him as a spammer. If he comes back we gotta ban him.

The horrible thing is he registered in 2009 and he's been posting at least since this time last year.

Really sorry about this. I just noticed the guy.

 
Haven't had to use this thread for a while, but I'm pretty sure "optionright" is a spammer.

You can check out his thread in the Junkyard. It's somewhat clever - he posts a semi-astute football statement, then adds his t-shirt sales link at the end. "Oh, by the way, click on this for a great shirt.."

 
Hmmm - we might want to hold off on this one, and see if he posts again. If he doesn't within the next week, we can close the account. Just not sure he's touting HIS shirt or just found it funny.

 
I nuked him. You can flag someone like that as a spammer. It makes their posts, About Me page, and all of their links disappear. Although I don't know why that post isn't disappeared. But whatever.

 
sude marked as spammer chinese of some sort recycling and removed a status board entry somebody beat me to it :)

I've banned the Panya1978 account. Joined today just before 7:00 a.m. No posts, but he listed an Asian dating site in his URL in his profile, and his IP resolved to Sri Lanka.
