The Mike Riley Presser

Says he talked to Eichorst on Tuesday / Monday / Tuesday. Met in person with the Chancellor on Wednesday.

For a guy who is so well respected around coaching and media circles, he knows NOBODY on the staff?

That struck me as odd, too. You'd think he'd have a pretty full Rolodex by now.
Yeah...I think he has been pretty isolated...but it still something that kind of bugs me a bit...

1. Really well respected but might not know a lot of guys

2. Might be bringing most/all of his old staff

3. Offense is a hodgepodge/multiple

Not the end of the world but just things that kind of made me go "hmmmm"

He's been here a single day folks. Give him some time....he's got plenty of it.
Thats just it...he doesn't have plenty of time. He is starting recruiting today, he said...time is up.

Why should people have confidence that Riley can get it done here?

The preparation for football, and the ability to recruit and fit in the talent of his team will give them a great opportunity to win. Always trying to prep yourself to win. They've been on the brink of doing that at OSU - going to the Rose Bowl, but fell just short.

Really punting on this question.
He implied that the increased history of this program and the ability to recruit here should allow him to push instead of falling short.
Yeah, apparently he hasn't paid attention to our last 15 years

Does that speak to the obscurity of the coaching hires Pelini has made?
You're missing the point, my friend.

This guy has coached in the NFL. He coached in the Pac-12. The media all claim to know him personally.

The coaching world is a pretty small world. I find it hard to believe his path hasn't crossed anybody on this staff at all in his almost 40 years of coaching.

EDIT: Apparently, I may be missing the point. Are you saying it's more telling about the previous staff that a guy so well known doesn't know any of the outgoing staff?
I agree...

Local press seems to be the ones asking all the questions. Jernstrom twice, just got one from Dirk. Think one was from Mike Welch.

His staff has to have two qualities - has to be an expert in his field. Linebacker coach has to be an expert at Linebackers. Also, has to treat people right.

Really have to read into what he's saying. Comes across as very intelligent when it comes to football. Uncomfortable in front of the new media, sure that'll change with time.

So he met with the interim head coach....and you think he should meet with the others before he gets started trying to salvage the recruiting class?

Do you really want us to lose all our recruits?
Won't take him that long to have a sit down face to face with them. He's gotta get a feel for them to see if any of them would fit in his system.

Telling is what he just said:

Must be an expert in what he's coaching. If he's a linebacker's coach, he's gotta be an expert in that.

Coaches gotta treat people right, with discipline, growth, and a vision to help build the athlete.

This sounds like he's talking about having a pro style staff.
