I suspect Knapp started this thread now because its an offseason topic. But the funny thing is, right now the football forum is mostly positive. Sure we have the Clinkscales and Afalava threads. Both bitchfests about bad news items. And the 9 wins thread has a lot of derp about whether its okay to just be okay. But there are also a lot of positive threads in football right now. Ameer coming back for senior year. Enunwa & Sirles to the Shrine Bowl. 2013 Highlight Video. New DB Coach - Charlton Warren.

It goes both ways. There are the overly negative.. but compared to fan bases it really isnt that bad... I would say there are far more "sunshine and lollipop" fans than in most fan bases.
I have been on a lot of chat boards, and this one is the most even-keeled board i have ever been apart of.

Supporting the team, cheering for them and being happy to be a Cornhusker fan makes you a "sunshine pumper." Anyone caught celebrating the Northwestern win is a sunshine pumper. Anyone happy that we had n**e w**s is a sunshine pumper. Anyone excited to have gotten to watch Taylor Martinez play here is a sunshine pumper. Anyone who even thinks of voicing out loud the idea that we may be better next year is a sunshine pumper.

That's a good post NUance. The wording I like best is this.
I tend to think a lot of Husker fans (myself included, and many on this board) are stuck in some sort of identity crisis over whether it's "okay to just be okay" and over what our actual expectations should be. It causes a lot of conflict, and we all need therapy over it. But therapy is about talking things through and finding our own way to process these things.
Therefore, let the threads, and the negativity, and the bitching, and the derp, and the kool-aid also, keep flowing. It's therapeutic.

Its just seems to have gotten harder to have decent discussions. The fanbase seems to be so polarized over Bo Pelini right now. As much of a fan of Bo as I am, Nebraska football is still about so much more than Bo Pelini. I'm pretty indifferent to what is to come of him, even though I'm of the opinion that he should stick around. I believe that is what's best for the program right now. But what gets me is like what Knapp said. Whenever anyone wants to talk about the postives and good things, theyre combatted with being a koolaid drinker, complacent, lowered expectations, not a realist, what have you. And it goes both ways. When the "Bo-haters" offer up legit criticism and concerns, I often see that approaced with Bo-hater and so on. It's like everything is viewed as one extreme to the other with no level-headed middle ground. It seems no one wants to budge off of their viewpoint and maybe look in from outside the box for a sec. Now, this is just a generalization, and most on this board are not like this, but it just feels that way sometimes. And of course, we have our share of crazies that will not be pleased or disappointed regardless what happens.

This describes almost every message board, everywhere. Even BIGREDIOWAN's favorite knitting message board has this kind of polarization.
It's the nature of discussions held in black-and-white text without the benefit of nonverbal cues, or tone and inflection.
Two examples - Hujan and I used to agree on a lot of things, but in the last month or two we've disagreed markedly on "stuff." I doubt we'd be so entrenched sitting in a couple of easy chairs watching the game.
True2thewhateverhechangedhisnametonow and I seem to have largely the same views and the same way of discussing our views at the bar, but here our tone seems (to me) very different. I doubt the message is much different, just different ways of communicating.

Craig. Then Craig injured and Rozier took over. When Craig got healthy they were sometimes both in the backfield. With Craig playing "fullback". Can you imagine: Craig, Rozier and Turner Gill all in the backfield? Mind = blown. lol

That's the correct time split.
And while you had Craig, Rozier and Gill in the same backfield, you also had Irving Fryar out at wingback. And after Craig graduated Tom Rathman was in that backfield with Gill & Rozier.
The early 80s were a crazy time around here. If we'd had that "speed" philosophy on defense then that we had in the late 80s (which came to fruition in the mid-90s), Dr. Tom could have another couple of mythical national championships.

The reverse could be said too. Anytime someone say something that could be deemed critical, there are jumped on by posters who disagree. Shockingly enough, there are people on the board with differing opinions. It is my thought that since many of my opinions are about Husker football, that this would be the place to share them. I don't really understand the angst about what people choose to discuss. If you don't want to read it, then don't.
