Interestingly, because this peaked my interest, I asked AI what brought the world out of the dark ages?

The transition out of the "Dark Ages" (more accurately, the Late Antiquity or early Middle Ages) was a gradual process marked by a combination of factors, including the restoration of trade networks, the rediscovery of classical learning, advancements in agriculture, and shifts in power and culture. The period wasn't uniformly "dark" in all regions, and different regions experienced these transitions at different times.

So, we are in the process of destroying trade networks along with attempting to suppress classical learning, farmers are hurting and losing their trade partners and power is being shifted into a few people's hands.
