True, true, I'll give you that. However. What were the plays in the tying drive? 1. Pitch option. 2. Belly Trap with a triple option look. Why did it work? Because Frazier and LP had been carrying the water for most of the game, and Osborne hit them with the change-up. Miami's defense was tired after dealing with Wiegert, Stai, Graham, etc all game. It was a cumulative effect.

Of course Osborne wanted big plays, but the reality is that it's always going to be 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Honestly, that was absolutely the B1G for a long time. But you have to establish the run as a threat. Then you hit one over their heads to a TE or WR. It's still very much a viable scheme.
Miami's D was tired because NU's D was forcing 3 and outs all 2nd half, and putting the offense back on the field. I agree that a running game is important, especially in the Big Ten, but I also prefer an offense that is more dynamic than Iowa, Minnesota, or even Wisconsin.  I am done arguing any point further, as we just keep going in circles. I

Gary Barnett won the Big Ten at Northwestern in 1995, and Randy Walker tied for 1st for the Big Ten in 2000.  Northwestern wasn't awesome, but Fitz inherited a much better program then you are thinking.
That’s true about winning the B1G in ‘95 but Gary Barnett only had 2 good seasons at NW while Walker had one. In those 15 years between the two coaches, NW only had 5 winning seasons.

As wild as this post is and I don't believe an ounce of it, Pat Fitzgerald would be a home run hire and the epitome of what Nebraska needs. And I would say Pat needs Nebraska. His teams with top 20 talent would win the conference 6/10 times.

I can see it all playing out. Nebraska wins the west the first two years, wins the conference by beating Ohio St, and then Ryan Day gets canned. In comes Luke Fickell, and it all comes full circle...
Its was actually true last time I believe it Frost is probably gone

I mean. It's just a discussion. Point and counterpoint.

But one more thing before we agree to disagree, if I may. Most offenses are more dynamic than Iowa. An option attack would be different than all of them. Hard to prepare for, difficult to deal with.

Agree. Anomaly or turning a corner?

No doubt.
He has the ability to coach and develop kids.  Wake will never be a "football" school.  They won't be able to recruit the kids to punch much higher.  He has steadily increased their competitiveness since his arrival.  Very relational and well thought of here.  A neat venue for an FBS school. You can sit right behind the end zone on the grass and interact with the players during warm up.  Very small stadium.

BUT getting 8-9 wins would be a huge upgrade....I think that he would have the coaching acumen to do better with better players.  He'd get us competing in the West....

Agree that an option attack would be difficult to prepare for, but conference coaches and defenses would most likely figure it out. That's what happened to Paul Johnson.  He had 2 good/great years at G-Tech, then was around .500 for the rest of his time there, except for one double-digit win season.

I'm not sure how many of you have coaching experience, but the Jimmies and Joes will always be more important than the Xs and Os. I agree that we need to find a system that doesn't require us to compete against OSU/Michigan etc. for recruits, but we needs some great players along with a coach who can create a fundamentally sound team in all phases.

Here’s the deal. If we make a change it sounds like 50% of the fan base will hate it, whoever it is. But last time the fanbase was 99.9% in agreement with the hire, and here we are 4 years later. In Trev we trust.

I don't think hardly anyone trust Trev Albert. If they do they shouldn't

This whole thread is laughable. SF has not been told he isn’t coming back. The administration did not lean this way after the “so called” investigation. Lmao.

what a lame attempt, that lets people dream and speculate. SF will be the HC at Nebraska next year, unless he and administration mutually agree to part ways, this working out a deal that is less than what a firing would cost us.

If we had a winning program now with the vacancy due to a retirement, I would be more open to taking on an assistant.  We are at a point where we cannot take another risk on a guy with no head coaching experience. It's a big leap to go from a coordinator or assistant to a head coach and many guys struggle with the transition.
I think we have a good roster and a supportive focused AD. We can't just do the same thing we try every time where we try to hire the opposite of whatever we have. There is no secret formula to where a coach comes from, and I also don't think we have to resort to a gimmick offense that no championship level teams are running. Frost was pulling in good recruiting classes with limited on field success also so I think it's ridiculous that people act like we can't find talent. If Frost came in and was winning 9 games a year he would have been getting recruiting classes in the low teens nationally and #1 in the west by a wide margin.

I read somewhere that on D, you need a "Dude" at each level.  A guy OC's have to scheme for and around....

I agree it is the Jimmy's and Joe's and why what we are seeing is so disappointing.  We have them.  They are just not being developed.  I will say that D is doing better than O, but on O, their first year here might be their best. A lot of times it looks as though the regress.  Get them here (we have) and develop the crap out of them....
