I understand Pat having a conservative offense but how much of that is because of the lack of talent? He finds ways to get the most out of his roster and when they had a good squad, they took it to tOSU and could have beaten them. He would win the conference with our roster. There's no doubt in my mind.

No we don't lol. When Pat has just a decent roster, he wins the west. He would have a good to really good roster in Lincoln. It would be a wrap from there. We would win the conference on talent and competent coaching. Also, I would not be surprised if he wants to go elsewhere because Northwestern cannot top what they did last year.
Not buying it. We are going to can our current bad coach and replace him with the one coach he absolutely destroyed with our only power 5 win this year? That’s really going to get players and fans excited.

It would be a huge upgrade. He is arguably the best coach in the conference.
I think he’s a good coach. Like around Clay Helton good. Let’s get someone better and then bring in Clay Helton to coach an offensive position group. Id like that better.

You guys are laughing now but his teams don't beat themselves and when he has an ounce of talent, they become all americans, go pro, and win the west. Let's not beat our chest and act like we are above that. Nebraska would be contenders in the west instantly.
Northwestern wins games because they try to let the other team "lose the game". I understand that has worked a few years greatly for Fitz, but style has a ceiling. I know 7-9 wins are way better than what we have seen at NU, but I have doubts that Fitz would get NU to 10-12+ win seasons.

All the talk about Fitz is a moot point anyway. He can coach at Northwestern as long as he wants and can probably get them to pay him as much as he wants too.

I think he would be an upgrade, but there would be a ceiling with Fitzgerald. He has done good things at Northwestern, but I want great. His "over achieving" years at NW are more of how his opponents have screwed up more often than NW actually "winning" those games. That includes a few victories over NU in that time, where NU basically gave NW the wins.

That's exactly the reason he'd be a good fit.

For all Frost's big talk, for all his swagger, for all the "they'll have to adapt to us" ...

His team's lost too many games and ultimately he failed here because he couldn't get his team's to clean up mistakes and do the fundamentals well.

That's is 110% Fitz's MO.

Fitz is a fantastic coach, I have tremendous respect for his body of work, and I'd be through the roof to see what he could do with more talent. He's always done more with less, and Frost and Co. have been the opposite - they've been pretty disastrous at actually developing the players they do bring in.

So, that's the question for NU fans. Would you be happy with 7-10 win seasons on a regular basis, if that was also the best it can be. I get that 7-10 win seasons is the "next step in the process" but I would also like to have a bigger ceiling than that.

Ahhh. So would we basically be OK being back Pelini without all the embarrassment about his demeanor?

Personally I don't view that as the ceiling for Fitz. But it's a good question for those of us that do.

Don't worry.  It would never happen.  That post is cap.
Yeah, I don't see Fitz even considering Lincoln. He's got it made in Evanston - not a lot of pressure. Every now and then they make a run. Absolutely the opposite in Lincoln. We expect results quickly, and the fishbowl is obviously quite taxing for anyone at the helm.
