the silver lining

outside of the indiana game we lost 5 games by a total of 29 points.

with a true freshman qb and good upcoming recruiting class with lots of top talent that want to play with raiola.

i think we win more than 6 games next year.
Lol

5-7

Do you practice and prepare to 40 or 50 players who will not be part of the 105 next year?

I'm sure they're going to have "fit" conversations with a lot of guys before bowl practice. Always a chance there are surprises/late decisions, but everyone is going to be aiming to be in the portal early to try and get a spot somewhere else. I expect we'll be able to give the reps to guys who are almost locks to be here next year.

The portal is only open for 30 days starting on December 9th.  There are going to be so many guys in the portal that I can't imagine anyone who is thinking about going won't enter right away and start trying to find a spot.  So I would think there will be a lot of guys who are going to be gone in a week.

I am aware of the outcome. Remove two turnovers and special teams mistakes and add Neyor making a catch and the final is closer to 20-3 and we are talking about how bad we beat their a$$.

This team’s problem is mental. It’s “other shoe” syndrome. The only fix is winning so they don’t get tight waiting for the big mistake that will doom them. They have to EXPECT to win. Thats what “learning how to win” means.

You just have to keep coaching.

Also, we had to WORK to get this loss to a team that was basically playing like garbage.  It's not easy to outmaneuver a team that's giving the game away that hard, but we did it.  Yay, us!  Diving on punts out of eagerness without knowing what's going on, missing 4 or 5 tackles in a row on the only guy that can burn us, still no kicker and then our QB lounging in the center of the pocket with Iowa defenders barreling his way...

Good stuff!

I want to say here that Hohl has established himself as an acceptable kicker. That miss was not on him. The snap and hold were bad.

Yes, of course.  I meant "Still no kicking game".  We also lost a couple games worth not having a kicker until just a couple weeks ago.  I think we should recruit another dozen scholarship quarterbacks to make up for it.  Odds are that some of them can be repurposed as kickers or special teams over a rough season of trial and error.
