I won't believe that fans/forums are the main reason why a kid decommits, but I have heard kids speak to it.

Heck, we love the stories of kids showing up for visits, fans knowing their names and rattling off their stats and how much of an impression that made. Ralph Brown had a great story about that. So, why is it unfathomable to see the flip side? Can't have your cake and it eat too.

Here is my opinion as to why this is not something that happens. Now there may be some extreme cases where a fan or fans go way off the deep end and does something crazy to make a player not want to go to a school but I think those are very rare.

We all know that recruits probably read message boards of the schools they feel strongly about. But if they can be swayed by a person who posts behind a curtain of anonymity, I would question whether there is a real reason. I mean, you aren't going to be moved on an important decision in your life because someone with the name BigHammer6969 said something stupid. Why would a football player?

In addition, if it were in fact this easy why wouldn't tons fans from Nebraska go on to Louisville's message boards and set up accounts and pose as fans that "hate" Lamar Jackson in the hopes of getting him to switch to Nebraska? It just doesn't work.

If a player uses this as an excuse to switch, it is my belief that it was an excuse of convenience. Some won't agree with me but unless there is hard proof of this actually happening a lot, then I stand by my view.

I agree. I also tend to think that kids aren't so naive. Could be wrong and wouldn't be the first time but being influenced by people you will never meet or people that should hold zero influence in their lives is quite an assumption.

I think there are enough kids out there that are quite naive and immature. Some, enough to even throw it out there. I would like to say it was a recent UW Husky commit that made a comment about fans acting foolish.

I agree 100% that it is a bad reason to decommit or not commit and probably not even the real reason. I think it's easy excuse.

I'd just prefer that excuse to not be one of many culminating reasons why a kid left NU. Especially in the case of this Bussey, who seems to have his head on straight. Not to say that he would even use fans/forums as an excuse, but I think you get my point.

Well I'd say with this story being out there coupled with the pearl clutching over MSU clapping during the game I'd say the deflection away from why Nebraska looked completely overmatched for three and a half quarters against MSU has been successfully executed.
Wow. I just lost what respect I had for you after reading that.
You're something. Really something.

I thought the wind shifted out here.....
Lets all get along, you guys
Agreed, I'm getting awfully tired of every one of his comments jabbing at my intelligence or telling me how little respect he has for me
I tell you what, when you quit displaying your lack of knowledge and quit turning every thread into a fire Bo thread, I'll quit pointing out how little you know. Deal?
Besides, i thought that there was some board rule against beating a dead horse into dust. I could be wrong, though.

As for you turning a thread about harassing a coaches family into how poorly the offense played for 85% of a game, well......

.....I hate it when someone plays this card, but that is a bad fan right there. There is no call for anybody to harass a coaches child because his team played poorly. Period. For you to deal that card from the bottom of the deck, i don't even know the words to use for it, but it really reveals a lot about you.

Edit: I apologize to the board for this post, but that just disgusted me.

Hey! So I never excused the threat as ok because the offense played badly.

You literally have no idea about me, so I'd appreciate it if the barbs stopped.
