First, who said I was rooting against Tommy? He's just not very good, and I don't see anything in his game that leads be to believe that he'll be much better. I hope I'm wrong. I think that he's our best option right now but Stanton would be better in the future. We should be better next year than this, so if they give Johnny the ball, I'd be ok with that.

Second, it's called being consistent. It's funny how Taylor was crucified by some people for his faults, yet those same people give Tommy a total pass for having those same faults.
You've run me in circles! Give me a minute to get my bearings. I'm nauseous. Got the car sick puking feeling. Keep going tho. I'll catch up.

Are "some people" the kettle? Or is that you?

But it's consistent in your book to crucify Tommy for his faults, but give Taylor a total pass for the same faults? Okay.

Who are these posters* who crucified Taylor for his faults as a freshman ? Because that's the common theme I'm seeing: "yes, Tommy made a lot of mistakes, but he wasn't exactly in an advantageous situation for a freshman QB, let's wait and see how he develops". I'm not seeing a lot of people giving him a total pass.

Maybe I'm prone to hyperbole myself. Anyhow I never had a problem with anyone criticizing Taylor rightfully for his faults. He fumbled too much, he mad bad reads, he threw too many INTs, especially his first 2years.

What I got tired of was people blaming him for him being awkward in interviews and his funny throwing motion. Even with that motion, he was a better passer than done of our past and current QBs, even though those QBs had/have better throwing motions. Also got tired of fans who blamed him for the faults of others. Example, there were a few times when he just got to his drop and he was hit by a defended and fumbled. The OL totally whiffed their block and he got killed, but some blamed him. Another instance was the B1G CCG when he hit Kenny right in his hands with a pass, Kenny muffed the ball and it resulted in a pick 6. All I heard was how bad Taylor sucked lost the game for us,even though he was about the only guy who kept us in it,and he did his job and that play.

As for who from this forum crucified z Taylor as a freshman, dude, that was 4 years ago, I can't remember even if I cared to.

There is no catching up! This is the tangent thread! Anything goes!

There were probably more people criticizing Tommy than there were Taylor. I'm also pretty sure no one said that Taylor should be replaced after his freshman year. I still don't understand why you don't think TA should be the starter. He is still 7-1 as a starter, whether that is because of or in spite of, doesn't matter; and as long as he keeps winning, you should stick with him and see if he is improving as he gains more experience.

Fair enough. As I said, he probably is the best right now, I just think that Stanton has the best upside. Just speciation.

Anyhow, we've probably sufficiently beat this dead horse into dust.

Some people are just not able to evaluate talent. Some people don't even know what the hell their looking at or looking for. Tommy has every physical tool you ask for in a QB. He has the calm presence and leadership you look for in a QB. He stands in the pocket, doesn't panic, and steps out of trouble. This will help the offensive line immensely. He struggled with some pre snap reads. He struggled with the speed of the game. He struggled with timing a bit. He let some throws sail, and some throws we're dropped. Time and experience cure every single one of these problems. It's all mental stuff. It can all be taught and learned.

I would imagine that Taylor was probably the hardest qb to pass block for in the history of football. just a simple "evaluation".

Not a hater and I've defended this immensly before cuz i appreciate everything Taylor did and also wish he had a good defense for a couple years and things may have been different, but I'm sorry. I'm just ready after 4 years now to see an actual quarterback play the quarterback position. I think it's refreshing. I thought it was refreshing a year ago even with all the freshman growing pains. In the long run, we'll be better off I think. Taylor was just too much of an all or nothin type of performer. The inconsistencies drove me nuts at times. I just happen to be of the opinion that Tommy has a much higher cieling-AS A QUARTERBACK.

That's an interesting observation. A scrambling quarterback can be a huge advantage when things go wrong. But you don't want a qb to scramble too quickly or too often. The OL gets exhausted and/or piles up holding penalties.

As bummed as I was when Taylor went out, I was kinda thrilled at the prospect of retooled offense myself. Armstrong takes a deeper step back in the pocket and takes the evasive step or two rather than break rank completely. His stats may have been humble, but I immediately liked Tommy's instincts.

Taylor had happy feet. There cant be any disagreement on that. And it's because he wasnt really a natural qb. He was a tremendous athlete who happened to be able to throw the ball averagely in a time when frankly, he was the best choice. And his frequent jaw dropping plays and runs covered up a lot of the downsides but gave us the necessary upside in a system that allowed for it. He played qb for one season in high school, was brought here as an athlete, played WR in scout (not even qb to allow himself to develop), and then was put at qb because he could dazzle defenses with his speed. Tommy's been playin qb much longer and he's a natural fit the for the position.

August 2013

Stanton is the future. Armstrong probably transfers after the year.

August 2014

AJ Bush is the future. Stanton probably transfers after the year.
August 2015

But seriously.......

^ no, not real quotes. Just pokin fun since he's already moved on to the next QB. I tried o edit the dates in the quotes but the editor resets them when you save.
