Think back to when Riley was hired...

Anti-Pelini hire.   I believe that was the first  thing I wrote about it here as well.

I didn't mind it, he had an impressive level of success by Oregon State standards.  He seems to have lost the plot.

What were you first two or three thoughts, be honest.

Mine were...

1.  I don't think this tweet is accurate

2.  Wow, seems like an odd hire
Should go back and pull up the threads...

i was like what the f#*k, then quickly went into BELIEVE mode and trusted our new coach.

And there is zero way any of us should have to Google the head coach that's coming to Nebraska. We should know who that person is very well. If I have to Google someone to figure out who it is, it probably isn't going to end well.

Can this go into the HB Bible?

its a legitimate Fact that has now been proven.

And the next coach is...

Bob Schmeckie

"Ugggg, what the f#*k!"  Ha

I knew who he was ahead of time. I was actually woken up with the news when my friend texted me that Riley was hired. Here were my thoughts in order:

1) What?

2) Why?!?!

3) Well, it's tough to win at Oregon State, maybe he'll do better with more resources.

4) Let's see who he hires as his assistants.

5) Well crap.

I'm a CFB junkie so I was pretty aware of Mike Riley when he got hired.

My thoughts were:

-Ok, polar opposite of Pelini, not the worst thing in the world

-Will be around 4-5 years to "right the ship" before turning over the reigns to Frost

-Will turn out a couple awesome WRs

-Jet Sweeps!

-Will maintain 8/9 wins per year but lose a couple games that make zero sense but hopefully offset that with a huge upset or two

I really thought Riley was hired for culture change first and coaching second.  When I saw the staff Riley brought with him I thought, "Dang, this is the best we can do?"  I think the world of Riley as a man, he's the rare coach that is universally respected amongst his peers.  Sadly, it was evident Riley was over his head pretty quickly.  I wish him well in his next endeavor as it's clear that he won't be the coach @ NU much longer.
Nice guys finish last.

Had to Google him.

Then convince myself to be optimistic solely on the fact that Oregon State is a program with "less" and he did get some quality wins over the years.

I was kinda pissed.  I thought to myself "You fire Bo after not firing him last year and THIS is who you hire immediately?".  I came around though, I knew who he was and was familiar with his OSU tenure.  I thought "Okay, this hire makes sense if they are assembling a super staff".  Then they didnt........and my optimism went into remission.

This sums my original thoughts as well. I was mostly surprised we hired a coach so quickly when it was still early Dec and there hadn't been enough time to talk to more than a couple coaches.

Edit: except I kept my optimism. I had hope Riley might be able to do something at Nebraska.
