Some hilarious tidbits from the 2014 head coach search thread, namely the posters who thought hiring Scott Frost was a terrible idea.

Someone suggested 85 year old Bobby Bowden. Paul Chryst was a HARD PASS (don't blame people on that, just funny he is 27-6/16-4 since then).

I wanted Frost and was certain we were going to get him and then I got a text from a family member showing me the headline that we had hired Mike Riley. I went numb with reaction and thought what a terrible terrible hire.

I heard Riley, googled him, I saw a guy who looked like Peter North. Just a menacing look, the kind of look that says " im going to long di** the Shi* out this program" I knew it was you Riley, you broke my heart, you broke my heart.

I really don't remember exactly what I said but I didn't know who he was. However, I think Echorst panicked and grabbed someone he knew that could calm the fan base right away and Rikey did that. It was refreshing to have that calm on the sidelines. I don't think he was brought in to win games. He was simply Husker fan damage control. Too sad.

That is in interesting way to look at it, I don't think the hire calmed the fan base but I see what you mean.  I think that is what SE thought would happen and I also think SE wanted an established coached that he could not have to "worry" about or even work with.

And there is zero way any of us should have to Google the head coach that's coming to Nebraska. We should know who that person is very well. If I have to Google someone to figure out who it is, it probably isn't going to end well. 

But he came with rave reviews from ESPN???

I have a FB post somewhere to prove it, but essentially: "Eichorst and Nebraska can't afford to screw this up (after firing Pelini).  Eichorst better cross his fingers that Riley gets better"

I was mad. I live in a pac 12 state so his games at oregon state were always on tv here. The dude had been trending down for years and used an upset over usc to cover up a lot of blowouts and a losing conference record.

I couldn't believe this was the hire after SE said they were going to open up the checkbook.

At least the guy will be gone soon.
