saw this from a link on another forum awhile back, and have been perusing it. that guy has some serious time into all of that fact gathering.

all in all, seems reasonable and believable. and quite damning.

with the FBI investigating this now, i eagerly await their findings. those boys dont f#*k around.

 
here's a taste for those on the fence about reading the whole thing. (its LONG)

This goes way beyond Cam. They say the FBI, while monitoring the Bingo mess in Montgomery and also investigating the misappropriation of TARP funds by Colonial Bank, uncovered many, many things. Such things include guaranteed winning slot machines for AU players at Milt’s (Colonial Board member, AU Booster) Casino, unmarked ATM cards issued to AU players from Colonial Bank (Bobby Lowder-AU Board Member and Booster; Pat Dye-Colonial Board member, AU employee and Booster), forgiven loans to families, friends, donors, etc.
If true, big time jail time, loss of SACS accreditation which means expulsion from the SEC, huge financial implications for AU, removal of Dye’s name from the field and so on.

Wow if that's true Auburn is in serious trouble. It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds especially since they are in the National Championship hunt.

 
not from just this source, but from several other places, i get the general impression that the FBI was 'involved' way before most thought, but for different reasons. this Auburn stuff is just icing on the cake for them. kind of like them listening into a drug trafficker only to find out his otherwise innocent best friend is a money laundering jihad. wicked webs and all that.

i usually am a waft away smoke type of guy, but everything i keep seeing drives me deeper out of curiosity and makes my arm tired. there's fire here somewhere, to what extent, who knows. but this many names involved so handily in one thing plus another is too much to overlook. the cherry on top is the fact auburn has faced these things before, and tallyho familiar names persist.

bottom line....

cam newton isnt the story here.

Yep goes way deeper than Cam..however, Cam knew about the pay-for-play deal his father made and kept silent..even though he didnt want to go to Auburn..cant wait to see more info about this but from a more reliable source

 
Looks like this thing will drag out way past the end of this season before they know what really went down. Look how long USC was under investigation for before they were penalized. This will be another one of those instances.

My guess is Auburn is, to use a poker analogy, "all in" for Cam to play the rest of this season out. Perhaps their thinking is, enjoy it while it lasts. In other words, win now, repent later.

 
It is a fact though that Lowder, McGregor, and Rane were the three biggest shareholders of Colonial before it went under. Dye was on its board of directors. All of them are connected.
Dye was forced out of Auburn because of payments to players. Lowder was involved with JetGate, his micromanaging got Auburn on probation with SACS (the organization providing AU's accreditation), and his bank was under federal criminal investigation just before it went under. McGregor has now been arrested under this corruption scandal. I don't know if Rane has any similar incidents on the record, but he has close ties with all the rest.

Regardless of what happens with Newton, Auburn has a problem with being associated with these shady characters. All are big benefactors, and Lowder and Rane are currently on Auburn's board of trustees. Even if this Newton thing goes by and no penalties get imposed on Auburn, that doesn't mean the school is free of issues.

let me preface this by saying im what some might consider an arrogant businessman. ive heard it before. i also know that im a very realistic afghanistan veteran that calls it like i see it and doesnt back down to anyone, but will openly admit when im wrong and heap praise on the rightful man.

here is my theory.

you have a group of rich men. made rich by, well, what some would consider unseemly means. gambling. banking. loans....tied to corruption and misleading. banks that men on boards for the tigers are tied to all of these things.

they are power hungry.

they dislike auburn's inferiority to Bama.

they do whatever it takes to win in 'life' and 'business'

ive worked side by side with men like these. they usually are very successful. for awhile. some never get "caught." some that beat me are not doing anything illegal,per se. they are just better at exploiting the laws for their benefit, and what I consider less immoral. most, however, end up losing at some point. its not gratifying.

do i have to go further?

sounds like a case of powerful men using their reach for what 'weak' powerful men do...its never enough. likely the payments to players type stuff was nothing more than an explicit hobby. however, with the FBI investigating everything now, i cannot tell you how eager I am to hear the outcome of all of this. You would have to be blind, deaf, and unnaturally dumb to not see the writing on the wall for this Auburn program. Theyve already dealt with this sh#t and continue to have the same people around the program! Who knows, tho. To continue the trend, maybe some honcho takes the fall and takes all the crap off off someones back.

 
Gotta agree with you there mmmtodd...makes you wonder what is going on at other universities..maybe not to this extent..but still makes you wonder

This will not end well if even a fraction of this is true. The only thing that would be fluid is the severity of the punishment. This is another horrible, horrible train-wreck for Auburn...and I just can't tear my eyes away from it!

 
Thanks for the link.....I was expecting a 5-6 sentence post with breaking news.....what I got was the Magna Carta. I will need to print this out and read during one of those big ones.

 
Wow, reading that whole thing almost made my head explode. If even half of this is true, Auburn is truly f'd in the a. Too bad that it's demise has been because of mainly only a couple of men who have the money.
